@kwayk42 @astrid A is of course a battery size too, albeit a more uncommon one. Any joke involving DNS is still funny!

@astrid But, both A and AAAA are also battery sizes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_battery_sizes

@jalager OK, I had no idea the single A battery was a thing.

Also, it's really funny that this battery is apparently so uncommon that they didn't have an actual photo to use on the Wikipedia page for battery sizes so they just drew a 2D representation of it on a piece of graph paper.

@kwayk42 that little factoid about 9V batteries (usually) being nothing more than six AAAA batteries in a trench coat will never not be mind blowing to me.

@mattdm yeah that brings up so many questions. So few things use AAAA batteries that most people don't even know they exist.

On the other hand, 9V batteries aren't at all uncommon yet manufacturers will often make 6 AAAA batteries first and then use those to make a single 9V? Wouldn't it be more efficient to make the 9V directly and make fewer AAAA's?

This has been bugging me ever since I learned this.

I used to have a flashlight that took 4.5V batteries that were actually three A cells in a bigger box. Unlike the 9V ones, which are quite hard to dismantle, these had a top that was very easy to pop off and so you could see the wiring inside.

I've never seen an A cell anywhere outside of these ones, but when I was young you could buy the 4.5V ones in most hardware stores. I haven't looked for one for a very long time, so I've no idea if that's a good thing.

@astrid AAAA is also a battery! Very uncommon but you can still get some if you know where to look for em! 9V batteries sometimes have six cells slightly smaller than AAAA inside of them, too.
