Ahmadinejad è vivo e vegeto e si trova in un luogo sicuro. Lo ha scritto Iran International, il media di notizie legato all’opposizione al regime con sede a Londra, smentendo giorni di lanci e speculazioni sulla morte dell’ex presidente nei raid congiunti di Israele e Stati Uniti. Se dapprima era stata data la notizia della morte, successivamente sulla sorte dell’ex leader estremista aveva cominciato ad aleggiare una coltre di incertezza e mistero. Oggi il chiarimento: secondo “fonti informate” Ahmadinejad è vivo dopo esser sfuggito a “un tentativo di omicidio” nel quale non è rimasto neanche ferito. Al momento si trova in un luogo sicuro.
Ahmadinejad è stato Presidente della Repubblica Islamica dal 3 agosto 2005 al 3 agosto del 2013. Considerato un conservatore laico, la sua legislatura fu caratterizzata da un’estremizzazione dello scontro con i Paesi occidentali. La sua rielezione nel 2009 venne scatenò delle proteste nel Paese che lo accusavano di brogli per restare al potere passate alla storia come “Onda Verde”. In più occasioni le proteste di piazza esplose durante il suo governo, erano state soppresse duramente.
Difensore del programma nucleare iraniano, aveva rafforzato i legami di Teheran con la Russia. Ahmadinejad era stato escluso dalla lista dei candidati alla Presidenza per le elezioni sia nel 2021 che per quelle del 2024. L’ex presidente aveva progressivamente perso seguito e credito, soprattutto ai vertici della gerarchia religiosa, in particolare il favore dalla Guida Suprema Ali Khamenei, dopo aver assunto posizioni critiche nei confronti del regime. Il suo ufficio aveva comunque subito smentito la notizia della sua morte diffusa dai media iraniani, a partire dall’agenzia di stampa semi-ufficiale Ilna.

Today, the clarification: according to “informed sources,” Ahmadinejad is alive after escaping “an assassination attempt” in which he was not even injured. At the moment, he is in a secure location.

Ahmadinejad was President of the Islamic Republic from August 3, 2005, to August 3, 2013. Considered a secular conservative, his term was characterized by an escalation of conflict with Western countries. His reelection in 2009 triggered protests in the country that accused him of fraud to remain in power, which became known as the “Green Wave.” Numerous protests in the squares during his government were harshly suppressed.

A defender of Iran’s nuclear program, he had strengthened ties between Tehran and Russia. Ahmadinejad had been excluded from the list of candidates for the presidency in both the 2021 and 2024 elections. The former president had gradually lost support and credibility, especially among the ranks of the religious hierarchy, particularly the favor of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, after taking critical positions towards the regime. His office had nevertheless denied the news of his death spread by Iranian media, starting with the semi-official news agency Ilna.
