    It's sad how people associate "feminism" with "those right wing weirdos who hate trans people"

    At this point I've seen TERFs publicized more than real feminists.

    Trans women are a feminist issue but the way I see it it's because we're women who need representation and civil rights and health access

      @burnoutqueen

      It's also sad to see women perpetuating the insidious patriarchal rhetoric that feminism is only for women, when it is in fact for everyone's benefit. But it is what it is.

        @burnoutqueen That's kinda the point: ruin feminism's image by bolstering the worst "feminists" and obscuring the actual feminists.

        Can't let women learn about feminism, after all!

          @rad feminism is primarily for women because women are not yet equal.

            @blueorchestra

            Sticking up for women who are being oppressed by the government should be more important to people than singling out and assaulting largeish women who may or may not have a penis somewhere.

              @burnoutqueen of course, it is particularly about women and I'm not denying that. But it's not *only* for women. Women's liberation is beneficial of everyone but patriarchs.

                @blueorchestra it's a very insidious way of replicating patriarchal policing of female people under a "pro woman" facade

                  Like, patriarchy also oppresses men a lot and it's important to keep that in mind, because the division created by the men vs women and not everyone vs patriarchy rhetoric is actually very good for patriarchy to keep us in check.

                    @burnoutqueen Oh yeah, in Brazil they are inherently associated with all Radical Feminists. Technically as far as I see that's the sentiment with most of Latin America.

                      @burnoutqueen@todon.nl These transphobes are not feminists at all, but like all reactionary conservatives, coop some of the language of feminism to strengthen a gendered hierarchy and ultimately exert more control on women's bodies and psyches.
