Would somebody from Hungary please clarify: Does anyone in Hungary seriously believe that Ukraine — a country fighting to survive a war with Russia — has ANY plans to invade Hungary, as Viktor Orbán wants people to believe?

@randahl Elections are coming up in a month in Hungary, and Orbán will say anything that helps him win and stay in power. Unfortunately, spreading fear and portraying himself as a victim still manages to win elections.

The most sensible Hungarians had already scattered across Europe by the time Hungary joined the EU. Many Hungarians are nationalists or pro-Russian, despite the fact that in both cases they have been duped by those parties. Why is that? If you’re kept in the dark and fed propaganda, this is what you end up with. Hungary now, Hungary then.

But there is hope; young Hungarians in particular are seeing through the lies more and more clearly. Especially if they live and work elsewhere in Europe. Hopefully they will vote, just as I do. I don’t know if Magyar can tear everything down and build it up again, but there is hope.

@randahl If you are fed the same "news" through all channels, TV, radio, newspapers, many internet portals, and if you don't speak English well enough to read or see foreign news, then - yes. There are people that believe this, they also believe that Bruxelles is the new Moscow or hat Soros is the arch enemy.

@randahl For one by parting his hair down the middle he looks like a Star Wars alien bad guy. My grandparents were from Hungary. They left after it split with Austria and thought it was just a matter of time before someone invaded - again. Maybe Orban thinks he can playing off old fears to distract from his corruption and incompetence.
