As of today, Saturday, May 9, 2026, 6pm the number of Labour MPs calling for Keir Starmer’s resignation or for him to set a firm timetable for his departure has grown rapidly following devastating local election results.

Current reports indicate that at least 37 Labour MPs have publicly called for him to step down or announce his exit strategy.

    The Current Situation
The pressure on the Prime Minister reached a boiling point after the May 7 local elections, where Labour lost more than 1,400 council seats and control of over 25 councils.

    Growing Rebellion:
The number of dissenters rose from 30 to 37 within just a few hours today.
Key Figures: High-profile names among those calling for change include Louise Haigh (who suggested he name a departure date), Clive Betts, David Baines, and Paula Barker.

    Ultimatum:
Some MPs, such as Catherine West, have explicitly "put the Cabinet on notice," threatening to gather signatures to trigger a formal leadership contest by Monday morning if no front-runner emerges to replace him
