toxic/abusive people often willingly take on work that benefits others in order to cloak themselves in an aura of credibility. this tendency is why we find so many abusers and sex pests involved in care work, activist work, and other positions where they've wormed their way into being considered Pillars of the Community.
the best response when someone in this position has been outed as such isn't, "so what? they're doing Good Things," but instead to operate under the premise that a poison tree cannot possibly bear edible fruit.
