@maya Curious what you think about it after you have it in hand for a bit.

@maya when they announced this I thought to myself, "but do i really think repebble is going to work? do i really want to order one?" and then I closed the tab, but like. I need to replace my smartwatch since the battery has degraded some. I want a month of battery life. I miss my weird blocky black and white plastic pebble from 2015. I am tempted.....

@maya my current smartwatch is, of course, an amazfit band 5 from 2021 which was extremely cheap and which is probably sending my heart rate info directly to China, which I have mitigated by not telling it correct values for my gender or weight and repeatedly denying it location privileges when it asks for them. So like. Maybe I could have a nice thing instead.

@maya (not to be xenophobic, i just hope whoever it is whose job it is to monitor heart rates in china is having a good time analyzing my data? they probably are not but I can hope)

@maya i vote "yes of course obviously you should buy that"
i want to think that since it can talk to a smartphone app, there should be a way to wedge slack notifications in there with enough time and tinkering
-
@maya I ordered the square one, if you want I will report back on whether slack notifs work in a few months when it arrives. My original Pebble got all the notifs for my Android, including Slack. Which was more of a curse than a blessing when my group chat posted something wildly nsfw in the slack we use to chat, when I worked in-person at an office. My original Pebble did not support emoji but that only somewhat limited the nsfw blast radius
-
@maya yessss i also bought i couldnt help myself the round is just *too* cute
-
@maya you're kinda making me want one of these

-
@maya this is maybe more my interest than yours but there’s a uxn port for the pebble that @angelwood made
-
@maya oh no maya
oh no i should not have this information
-
@maya i realized after you posted this yesterday that i, at least theoretically, have a square one coming. i bought it in one of those "well, i'll do this and forget about it and maybe in a year or two it will arrive" moments i'm trying to have fewer of.
the ridiculous thing i have wanted in a watch for years is a tiny orrery. it will be interesting to see if that's at all feasible.

@maya I once looked into changing this watchface to show the solar day, but I couldn't get my head around the SVG.

from my experience with regular rings, if they're marginally too tight they will definitely chafe and cause significant problems for your skin.
