    I'm still struggling to find my footing here on Mastodon. A bit with the platforms and tags, but mostly finding people to follow. I'm a bit all over the place, posting about my #writing, be it academic or fiction (mostly #SciFi), and about cool #Science I ran into, and the more common than it should be - complain about stuff.
    I'm interested in #SFF, #publishing, #MiniaturePainting, science, #queer culture, academia, human sexuality, geekish humor, #comics & #EarthSci.

    Recommend people to me!

    @ombialik as others wrote before: follow hashtags, then see who's posts you like (or mostly stay with just hashtags altogether - that spares you stuff people post about topics that don't interest you)

      @dantheclamman @Lilysea
      It's a very small world, especially in some fields of research.

          @ombialik Sorry I can't really help with recommendations - but I can boost this so maybe people who can see it more easily. ๐Ÿ™‚

            @EyesOnNature Appreciated, although getting a bit overwhelming. Didn't expect to get this much response (or new followers).

              @ombialik I don't have recommendations for people but perhaps subscribing to some very special hashtags can help you discovering people: #academicChatter #WritersCoffeeClub #PennedPossibilities #writingCommunity #writersCommunity #writersOfMastodon #PhantastikPrompts

              and

              #bookstodon #MastoArt

              More about the weirder hashtags: https://fedi.tips/fun-and-useful-hashtags-to-follow-on-mastodon-and-the-wider-fediverse/

                  @ombialik write all over the place, tag stuff, post pictures, rage about academia, and generally just enjoy yourself shout at the void for a bit and people will find you. Hop on replies and hashtag stuff*

                  masto is a slow burn, but because of that you really get to know people.

                  *hashtagging the one appearance of a Gargoyle in Dr Who in 1970 and then going on it for three years may not be a wholly viable strategy

                    @ombialik I hope that's a good thing, as soon as the feeling of being overwhelmed has faded!
