I guess it was a nightmare. After twitching enough, he jumped up with quite the force and looked around with puffy tail and mohawk on his back. Then he proceeded to curl up in my lap again.

I always freak out when one of my kitties, who had been abused for years by her previous owners before running off and getting rescued has a really bad dream and wakes up screaming.
It doesn't happen all that often, but I always rush to her when it does happen and you can see the relief on her face when she realises where she is.

@outofprintarchive Wäinö has always been extremely social towards humans, he's never far from people and loves all the attention and cuddling. We lost our other kitty to cancer last month and this has pretty obvious impact on Wäinö. He's a lot more clingier now. I don't honestly know what to do with him, he obviously misses his buddy but with him being 17 this year, I don't know how well he'd adjust to a younger cat. This was the second time in his life when he lost his kitty friend.

A new kitty might indeed be a big shock to his system.
It's impossible to know how he'll react.
He might get really jealous or cling to it after a couple of weeks of adjusting. The safest route is just to give him all the attention he needs and keep an eye on him for tells if he might be falling into depression

@outofprintarchive He's been pretty social towards others too, we got Wäinö after our calico, Bastet lost her first kitty friend. Bastet and Wäinö were inseparable. Bastet passed away when she only 5 years old and the cat distribution system brought us the tuxedo Vallu just 3 months later. Wäinö and Vallu got along, but were never the best buddies like with Bastet.
