    One of my employees just decided to explain the XZ Utils backdoor to me while I repeatedly told him that I had read all about it at the time it was discovered. While we were having this ‘conversation’, this book was sitting in full view on my desk:

    @katemorley maybe he imagined a comma after “men”.

        @katemorley
        Maybe they talk because they imagine they see a comma in the book title.

        Men,
        Explain things to me.

        And they say, okay.

                @katemorley please tell me there was no addition of "Sweetie . . ." because that has often been added in my experience, when anyone mansplains something to me.

                  Sadly, I think you have to hit guys like that with it before they'll notice anything.

                  @alice @katemorley that book should only be available in hardcover. It would be more impactful.

                                    It’s the same old problem – these tools make me feel unsure.
                                    It’s fine when I’m speaking, mind you. But when it comes to writing, I suddenly can’t remember how to spell things.
                                    I learnt English and French at school, yes. I can manage a bit of Italian, but only when reading.
                                    And I’ve only just noticed this language setting in the browser. I think that’s what they call selective perception.

                                        In dem Alter wird es schon schwierig. Und in der Schule muss man Vokabeln pauken, irgendwie. Als Erwachsener braucht man viel Motivation.

                                          Das war es, was mich am Latein gestört hat. Der Lehrer stand da und hat eine Fremdsprache auf deutsch erklärt. In der Parallelklasse die Lehrerin hat es gesprochen, ganz normal wie Englischunterricht.
                                          Und als ich an der Uni Chinesisch probiert habe, das Gleiche: Auf Deutsch erklärt.
                                          Wie soll man das dann aussprechen und formulieren lernen?

                                          Was sonst die Schule betrifft: 12 Jahre jeden Tag mind. 1 Stunde Englisch, da muss man nicht mehr viel lernen. Da bleibt immer was hängen.
