In Norse myths, the god Heimdallr is the son of Odin and nine mothers (who are all sisters). The surviving myths don't explain how this happened. Some sources say Heimdallr's mothers were ocean jotnar called Gjalp, Greip, Eistla, Angeyja, Ulfrun, Eyrgjafa, Imd, Atla, and Jarnsaxa.
