@mms this is one of the BSD Cafe problems:
      - great friends come in
      - we promote self hosting
      - they start self-hosting
      - the Cafe loses one "user"

But the good thing is: once you're part of the BSD Cafe, no matter what your handle is, you'll always be a "friend of the bar."

I have good news, I'm too lazy to self-host my own instance, so I'll stay here until the end of time πŸ˜‰

@stefano @mms The big downside of this effect is losing the "local BBS" feel of the instance.

Akkoma has a cool concept of the "local bubble" which is not only the instance but friendly instances, to make that work for a collection of several instances.

Twould be nice to have that for the BSD bubble

@tfb @stefano TBF, I don't like mastodon. I love people here, but it's twitter with of all it's downsides. Personally, I consider it the least bad social media 😜

It's far from BBS (even though I'm too post-comunist milenial to ever use BBS)

you may surprise yourself. it's a lot of fun even in $current_day

but to your earlier point, having your own snac2 (or whatever you like) is a really nice way to hang a shingle. i've been experimenting with jails lately and by proxy launched a small gts instance for posting weird unix art. eventually i'll have a main instance, but bsd.cafe feels like home away from loopback πŸ™‚
