#FolkloreSunday: „Maypole dancing was outlawed in Puritan England in 1644. It is probable that it was not so much the dances themselves that caused concern but the usual aftermath, the “greenwood weddings” of young people who spent #Beltane night together under the pretext of gathering flowers to deck the town next morning, for the Puritans complained that girls who went a-maying “did not one of them return a virgin.”
