Went to the Cory Doctorow @pluralistic talk at Russell Books in Victoria BC tonight. It was a hilarious barn burner of a talk.

Cool to meet someone who I've read so much of. Chatted for about 5 minutes about all sorts of stuff. He was super friendly and understanding of my nervous ramblyness.

I didn't get a chance to ask my question (there were lots of great questions) afterwards so maybe if Cory sees this he can answer here:

One of the themes of #Enshittification is how political power can be a check on corporate power. One place where an ordinary citizen can get traction politically is at the municipal level. So im wondering if there are examples of how cities can combat Enshittification?

If he comes to your city I highly recommend getting a ticket (and supporting your local bookstores!)

@dylanwre Yes! Procurement - refuse to buy anything for the motorpool, the schools, and other public institutions unless it can be untethered from clouds, its source can be audited, etc.

@pluralistic thanks! That makes a lot of sense. I guess this is one place where a collective buyer can exert more influence whereas individual buyers can't.
