@mastodonmigration I think most people will cut their own foot off with a rusty saw before they'll use anything that is notably better/safer/more private/etc in important key ways but slightly less convenient to use.
All a company has to do is put a pretty plating on something and people will spend anything and give up all rights to get it instead of the less pretty one.
(And don't get me wrong, there are some very real accessibility issues that this polish sometimes can actually fix in the cases of many techs, but it's also less likely those issues will be fixed elsewhere when no matter how hard someone works on them people just go to the flashier tech if it offers a slightly easier experience instead — or even just the perception of one...)

If you host your own instance you should be safe but public instances need to do the comply too!
