@Viss I once spent three hours on the I-40 after an accident... near Kingman. Would have had enough time to set up a BBQ grill, make lunch... instead, took a tour of the hills (looking for a discreet bush, lol) a few times.

@ai6yr its been a while since ive been stuck like that, but the last time, my wish was that I had a dedicataed in-car dji mavic type drone so that I could have it take off, survey the traffic jam, snap a pic of the problem area, then land, and do that on cue like once every 15 minutes so i could get updates on wtf was happening

@Viss I used the truckers stuck at the front of the line. I have a general distaste for CB. Except road closures like this one, where it's invaluable!

@Viss @ai6yr Yeah I used to have CB in my vehicle many eons ago, mainly bc dad was OTR semi driver much of his life. But so seldom used stopped bothering trying to fit it in newer cars. Wouldn't mind a reliable compact one that also had weather radio. Have small AA powered AM/FM/Weather that is passable when not driving.

@CliffsEsport @Viss I have a CB with a cigarette lighter plug and magmount antenna, specifically for this situation. In a pinch, I'd stop at the first truck stop and buy that setup (available widely) before embarking along any long western shipping route. You can leave it off until you run into traffic or weather, to avoid the non-weather/traffic usage, which is for random white dudes to scream the F word at non-white truckers and at people driving cars. 🤪 (the only channel to know is Channel 19, the trucker's frequency).

@ai6yr @CliffsEsport @Viss have you ever actually needed to transmit with the CB? Because if not it sounds like a cheap analog scanner would have you covered

@flyingsaceur @CliffsEsport @Viss Analog scanner would work too. I have transmitted with CB, but I don't use the F word enough and I got called out by the truckers when I was using it, lol. Not enough drawl and don't know the culture, they called me "four wheeler" 🤪 (car = four wheeler instead of big rig). That said, a trucker saved me a speeding ticket near Flagstaff.... "HEY FOUR WHEELER! YER GONNA GET A TICKET, THERE'S A SMOKY THAT HANGS OUT UP AHEAD THERE, SLOW DOWN!"

@ai6yr @flyingsaceur @CliffsEsport @Viss there are way worse things to be called than 4-wheeler 👀 - I used to drive tour coaches and some of the smack-talking was next level.

My favorite was the guys who'd recite the milepost of every cop they'd seen that day, I'm like "that's 300 miles away - the cop you saw went home from work two hours ago. He ain't got that customer still."
