A1. Lying in bed with a cup of coffee, looking out the window on a crisp sunny morning, in the hills to the east of Manchester, Englandshire.
I did not know that the 13th was Winter Bike To Work Day. I cycle in to work twice a week year round anyway, and Fridays are very much a day I don't go into the office. -

@ascentale @xtaran @bikenite A1. I’m in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. That’s where I almost always am

️
️Yes, I knew that today was Winter Bike To Work Day. I work at home, though, and so walked to work

@ascentale @xtaran @bikenite A1.1 BTW, the reason I knew about Winter Bike To Work Day is that the City of Kitchener had a special morning event for it.
CycleWR (@CycleWR@mstdn.ca)
Attached: 1 image Reminder: City of Kitchener has a cool winter event happening this Friday Check it out! “The celebration begins at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, February 13, 2026 at the Kitchener Cenotaph (corner of Frederick and Duke Streets). The a group bike ride will follow the newly opened separated bike lanes in the Downtown Cycling Grid, including the recent transformation of East Avenue. Everyone who participates will receive a free coffee or hot chocolate, and there will be special prizes for first-time winter cyclists. winter cyclists. Kitchener now maintains more than 300 km of separated bike lanes and trails, designed to keep people active year-round. With prizes, warm drinks and a supportive community ride, it’s the perfect moment to try winter biking and see how enjoyable it can be.” 😀🚴🏼♀️🚴🏼🚴🏿♂️☃️❤️ #Kitchener #WaterlooRegion #BikeTooter #WinterCycling https://www.kitchener.ca/news/posts/bundle-up-for-winter-bike-to-work-day/

@ascentale @xtaran @bikenite I'm here an hour late and a dollar short
in Central Illinois. Yes I rode to work today.
I have matching gloves b/c when I didn't, a guy on the bus pointed to where I'd dropped one and ... we all ended up holding up our hands with mismatched gloves in a quiet community bonding
And when I told this to my neighbor, while waiting for the bus, she said she thought she'd seen the missing one walking the dog but she figured it was under teh snow...
Weeks later, yesterday morning, I head out on the bike and THE GLOVE is in my driveway
As in, walkin' the dog, picking it up from the ground and just droppin' it where it would be seen.
I successfully got out the driveway as the bus was approaching, but she wasn't there to wave a purple hand to thank, but I loved the anti-entropy of Getting Something Back To Its Place.@geonz @ascentale @xtaran @bikenite A1 reply: my gloves have clips or Velcro allowing me to attach them to each other when I take them off. I lose them a lot less when they are bigger and bulkier, plus they can actually hang over rails or handlebars. Try something; Convention lanyard, shoe laces, anything. Doesn't work? Try something else. Good luck!

Will/Did you commute by cycle?@ascentale @xtaran @bikenite A1 posting from home, Santa Clara, CA. Around here, bike to work day was renamed "wherever" during the pandemic. While I didn't know it was an encouragement day, I happened to bike to work because it was not raining, then came home early, dropped off the laptop, then biked to Costco to get 4 things as is my routine every 2-3 weeks. The square crate was not full! I love my rock star parking, right up front! Getting out of the parking lot is annoyingly crowded.

@NNN @ascentale @xtaran @bikenite were you at Theo Wirth? I love your multimodal ambition!
@andyw350 @ascentale @xtaran @bikenite
Yes! My method:
- wrap seatpost with thin card stock (Toblerone tube) & tape.. so skis can bounce up and down without chafing on seatpost
- put bubblewrap on top of rear rack
- remove rear "ski bones" from tail of skis and put skis around seatpost, tail forwards
- put "ski bones" back on tail of skis so they pinch the seatpost
- lay poles on top of skis
- wrap pole handstraps around stem
- wrap a bungee cord around skis at rear of rack to hold them down -

@trouble @ascentale @xtaran @bikenite
I'm pretty good with gloves (don't know why
) but was dog walking to fill in b/c dog's mom busted up her ankle badly enough to still be in ortho rehab now. BUT I am pretty sure they have clips that ... LOL, I can use

Will/Did you commute by cycle?@ascentale @xtaran @bikenite A1. #BikeNite At home in Ventura County, California. I wasn't aware that there was a winter bike to work day. I mostly WFH, but there is an interesting way to get to our office using 90% trails. Not exactly an easy route, even on an ebike, due to rockiness. You need to stay focused. The route via the road isn't awful, but I prefer trails.
I use the trail route once every few months or so to do maintenance on a computer server. There is one semi-official section of trail on that route that I spend time maintaining. It turns into a creek when it rains (photo).
I think I mentioned last week that I was ordering a replacement battery for my ebike. That arrived and the battery is new, as advertised, so I'm happy about that. I got about a 30% increase in range.

I hope that's an e-mountainbike on that trail.

@FourT4 @xtaran @bikenite @ascentale Hearing Highcliffe-on-Sea mentioned brings up memories. I had British parents. Growing up we would visit England every summer to see relatives who were scattered around. We eventually decided to buy a flat in Milford-on-Sea as a home base for those visits, just along the coast from you. We had it from the 70s to maybe 10 years ago. Lots of fond memories of the shingle beaches, walking into town and along the cliffs, shopping in Lymington, etc.

@the5thColumnist @ascentale @xtaran @bikenite I can ride my regular bike on this, but it is a lot more challenging. I'll be in zone 5 by the top. ebike is definitely preferred.
