I am trying to generate a Gemini API key.

I am trying to generate a Gemini API key. The documentation I’m following for Omni describer says to do it in Google AI studio, but they want it to be tied to a project. I don’t have a project, I just want to use it for Omni describer.

@technocounselor I wish I remember how I created mine, as I did mine some time mid last year, and just don't remember. when I look at mine, it doesn't look like mine is even tied to a project, so I have no idea here.

@technocounselor I did this months ago. I think I ended up having to create a project. It doesn't matter what you call your project or what you use the key for but I believe you do need a project.

@technocounselor it’s easy. You just create a project what this entails is just giving it the name. Then you create an API key to that project. Literally three second job

@technocounselor @DavidGoldfield Google designed this system for software developers creating projects that use Google APIs and then distributing them with the API key included or on their server, where the developer handles API keys and paying for access for APIs that cost money. It was not designed for end-users having their own API keys that they enter into applications. Therefore, you must create a project as if you're developing a new piece of software and pretend that you are when filling out the form, but when I did this before with Google I didn't have to enter very much and it didn't take very long.
