Didn’t mean to get all Football mansplain-y on poor @johnefrancis. Sorry mate.
But results like this shouldn’t surprise us any more as the #CanPL is actually good quality football for such a young league.
It really pisses me off when the media (looking at you, Wheeler) sells it as some sort of fluke. It diminishes the fine result and hard work of teams such as Atletico.
An upset would be the semi-pro Calgary Blizzard (APL) beating CF Montreal (MLS) today.

@Luchador no offence taken
.I'm not a deeply engaged Canadian soccer fan and glad to learn of this CPL-MLS parity.
How do the typical team salaries compare between MLS and CPL, in 2026?

Money is, unfortunately, often the deciding factor.
Most CanPL teams operate with a player budget between $750K and $1.3M (there’s a cap), whereas MLS teams spend $10M+ with Inter Miami reportedly approaching $50M.
So, you get what you pay for.
That said, CanPL teams can still be very competitive against MLS clubs on the lower end of the payroll spectrum.
Realistically, though, going up against the bigger MLS clubs with high-profile players would be a significant challenge.
