    @jonsnow

    Quick question though, in the article they mention **some** features of the OS will be behind a subscription, wouldn't that mean that you would still be able to use essential features?

    Either way, the fact existing computers that were designed to run Windows 11 are not going to be compatible with Windows 12 because of the NPU requirement bullshit already makes me glad I switched to Linux, it's like Microsoft knows. Being able to upgrade your operating system without having to buy an entirely new computer is a thing of the past it seems. ๐Ÿ˜•

      @post_reader Sorry that I say it: Unfortunately, it's too much tech language for ordinary people.

      It can help to write texts in cooperation with absolutely non-techie people who are experienced in education. If school kids understand a text, unexperienced adults will, too.

        @jonsnow

        P.S: Even if you would still be able to use essential features, it does set a precedent for subscription-based OS where you don't own a copy of the OS, that's not really the future of computing we want to be headed to.

          @NovemDecimal the leaks also claim it's modular but you can bet you won't be able to disable Copilot and many other things Microslop want you to use, buy etc.

                    @jonsnow Couldn't even run that slop if I wanted to since my computer had a major CPU and motherboard upgrade in 2021 and it doesn't have an NPU.

                        @SilverArrows @jonsnow Same here, more or less--I use Linux on my daily driver (an ancient desktop), but audio software on Linux isn't quite up to snuff yet.

                        I had to edit the registry in Windows 10 to stop it from downloading the Windows 11 update. Windows 10 isn't great, but it isn't using all my system resources to generate data and train AI so Microsoft can increase their stock values with my processor and RAM.

                        Goddamn I hate Microsoft.

                        Same here, and to disable all things Copilot.
                        Some HAVE TO use Windows. It's not like they have the choice if their work depends on it.

                        Depending on Ai,
                        expensive new hardware,
                        subscription-based OS (it will come for full OS, I don't doubt it),
                        depending on hardware that is hogged by developers so we pay through our noses:
                        This all creates an elite of those who can afford it, and an interesting alternative stream of pitchforks is in the making as well.

                                    @jonsnow @NovemDecimal At least, having some ai slop paywalled makes it clear that it's not a unavoidable default....

                                    I'm still never going to touch that stuff again. ๐Ÿ˜‰

                                      @jonsnow

                                      I'm starting to think there's so hardcore FOSS nerd undercover at Microsoft, who's going to singlehandledly bring forth the Year of Linux on the Desktop.
