@3dpng @jonsnow So many reasons to call it Windows 13 instead.

@jonsnow "transparent glass elements" - was it Vista with "Aero" UI elements? Failed once, let's repeat the mistake again 🙃

@jonsnow @3dpng Perfect. Then, just before releasing that, they could release a good Windows 12, same as Windows 11 without all the co-pilot and microsoft account crap etc., a really barebones windows version, for those that just want an operating system (99% of users). I think I might even use something like that.

@jonsnow I'm sticking with 10 until Steam bricks, then I will be forced to figure out how to get my Linux to connect to the interwebz (it used to fine, then at some point, it was like, nope, no interwebz for you!).

Most of the software I use is like 20 years old+ anyway. I was still using Win7 up until about 3 years ago when I got donated my cousin's PC. My plan was Windoze for games and Linux for everything else, but I couldn't get any of my main programs to work on Play on Linux so I had to resign myself to Windows being my main and I use Mint's ssd for backups.

@SilverArrows @jonsnow Same here, more or less--I use Linux on my daily driver (an ancient desktop), but audio software on Linux isn't quite up to snuff yet.

I had to edit the registry in Windows 10 to stop it from downloading the Windows 11 update. Windows 10 isn't great, but it isn't using all my system resources to generate data and train AI so Microsoft can increase their stock values with my processor and RAM.

                    Goddamn I hate Microsoft.

@jonsnow To make it worse, they most likely will name it Windows Copilot OS or WiCOS.

@clonedhuman luckily my PC is "not compatible" with 11. But I did have to keeping telling win7 on my crappy old netbook to not install win10 with every update. It could barely handle 7.

Quick question though, in the article they mention **some** features of the OS will be behind a subscription, wouldn't that mean that you would still be able to use essential features?

Either way, the fact existing computers that were designed to run Windows 11 are not going to be compatible with Windows 12 because of the NPU requirement bullshit already makes me glad I switched to Linux, it's like Microsoft knows. Being able to upgrade your operating system without having to buy an entirely new computer is a thing of the past it seems. 😕

@post_reader Sorry that I say it: Unfortunately, it's too much tech language for ordinary people.

It can help to write texts in cooperation with absolutely non-techie people who are experienced in education. If school kids understand a text, unexperienced adults will, too.

P.S: Even if you would still be able to use essential features, it does set a precedent for subscription-based OS where you don't own a copy of the OS, that's not really the future of computing we want to be headed to.
