    The time has come for the train highlight of this trip: My personal #Intercity 1 farewell tour! It is my second attempt to board the #DB IC 2214 "Deichgraf" at Bremen. In November 2024, #DanskDiesel had to be reorganised due to the cancellation of the IC 2214. This time, I am successful in boarding, but the train is delayed by about 30 minutes. It's a very quiet ride on this Sunday morning. #AmRumReisen

    At Itzehoe, the #DB #Intercity 2214 Deichgraf changes traction. This is one of the last times that two DB 218 Class engines will pull an IC 1 train from Itzehoe to Westerland. Some trainspotters are waiting for the delayed train along its route over the Nord-Ostsee Canal towards Sylt. ICE L trains have already started operating on this line. The last IC 1 trains will run on 30 April/1 May from/to Westerland if I am not mistaken. 😥 #AmRumReisen

      @larstransportworld

      The compartment merits the terms 'salon' or 'saloon' or 'lounge'. There is an echo of the comfortable familiarity of a drawing-room.

      With modern designs, they may be efficient and 'clean' but they are a travel space. They are not like 'home'

        Like many others, the ICE 200 Zurich-Cologne-Hamburg stops at Basel SBB for 26 minutes. This is not what I would expect from an international high-speed train, but it is enough time to get off the train and buy some food (as there wasn't enough time in Zurich). The train's departure time is barely listed on the departure board by the time it arrives! #AmRumNörgeln

        @larstransportworld Ist halt wegen Baustellen weiter nördlich notwendig. Andererseits ein willkommener Puffer für südwärts fahrende ICEs. Der Aufwand, um allfällige Ersatzzüge zu stellen, hat sich zumindest ein bisschen reduziert.

          @wrzlbrnft Ist ja auch nur für ein Jahr, richtig? Solange die internationalen Züge in den nationalen Trassen IC3 und IC6/IC61 mitschwimmen, gibts wohl nichts Schlaueres.

              In November 2025, the Intercity through coaches to Dagebüll Mole have been abolished. This means changing trains at Niebüll for us. Some connecting NEG trains from Niebüll to Dagebüll Mole will start at Niebüll DB station instead of Niebüll NEG. This involves a time-consuming shunting procedure with reversing in order to provide connections at the same platform. However, this is only theoretical for me due to our delay and missed connection. #AmRumReisen

                An RDC Class 628 DMU takes us from Niebüll NEG to Dagebüll Mole at cosy speeds of between 50 and 80 km/h. This twenty-minute shuttle service connects to the Föhr and Amrum ferries. Almost no one gets off at the intermediate stops of Deezbüll and Maasbüll. #AmRumReisen

                  At Dagebüll Mole, a single RDC couchette coach is coupled to the Class 628 DMU to increase capacity on this Sunday afternoon. What an effort for a twenty-minute shuttle service involving a lot of reversing! I guess this is not a regular procedure. #AmRumReisen

                    My journey only continues to Amrum after a brief five-minute change. However, the walk between the train platform and the pier is very convenient. This direct ferry service to Amrum, which avoids Föhr, is fully booked for cars, but there is enough space for foot passengers. #AmRumReisen

                      Citaro buses without line numbers look unusual to me. However, it makes sense on the island of Amrum, where there is only one line. But let's talk about tickets: Combined rail-ferry tickets automatically include a free bus ride to your destination. However, round ferry tickets for foot passengers without a combined ticket (like me, travelling with Interrail) do not include a bus ride. #AmRumReisen

                          @larstransportworld I guess it's just very weird, looking from a country where carriage trains are still the order of the day (and, indeed, the country where many of the withdrawn IC1s are going)

                            @HaTetsu Indeed, it is a couchette not a sleeper. I have fixed the error. I guess it is a car that isn't used for the RDC night trains at the moment.

                                        Some people say I only travel for the trains. That’s not true at all, of course... 😉

                                        @larstransportworld I went there two years ago, also somewhat for the easy accessibility by train and ferry, and have to say that I really found it a beautiful place

                                          After almost a week, it is time to travel home by bus, ferry and train. #AmRumReisen
