Interestingly, lots of governments are also making this very mistake!

@bert_hubert The "cloud" is just a bloody server farm. Those existed thirty years ago too. They were just relabeled to be able to ask 20x the price of normal hosting....

@bert_hubert "No one has ever gotten fired for buying IBM*" was apparently taught as a good thing amongst government purchasing organizations.

@jrf_nl please do reconsider that - AWS etc are not just selling server power. Not by a long shot. https://berthub.eu/articles/posts/dear-hosting-providers-you-sell-lumber-and-not-furniture/#:~:text=Get%20to%20Know%20the%20Cloud

@bert_hubert Ik realiseer me goed dat ik het versimpel, maar de meeste mensen denken nog steeds dat "cloud" iets magisch is en ik denk dat we iets meer down to earth hier naar moeten kijken.

@bert_hubert As you probably know, the UK government even has that written down as "Cloud First Policy": https://www.gov.uk/guidance/government-cloud-first-policy. In practice, they mostly use AWS: https://gds-way.digital.cabinet-office.gov.uk/standards/hosting.html

@bert_hubert Actually they are totally like that! As in, most people have totally wrong assumptions of how they actually work and no clue about the crud that is inside of them 😆

Here's a nice example because you put a picture of a water tap:

                    - YouTube

Auf YouTube findest du die angesagtesten Videos und Tracks. Außerdem kannst du eigene Inhalte hochladen und mit Freunden oder gleich der ganzen Welt teilen.
