A steel paper knife that I made. Or a random scrap of paper.
@tempusfelix
I have seen antique silver ones for bookmarks and page turners, and that was what made me think of the poll.I just wouldn't know what to do with it wile reading.

@Maker_of_Things for a while, every time I brought a handful of dollar bills back from the US because I don't like using cash and so my smaller change never got used, I'd put them aside and use those as bookmarks.
I have mostly switched to an e-reader for the last decade or so, and the US has gotten much more cashless-friendly, but I still have a few tucked away for when I need them.

@jacel
I guess a dollar bill would be cheaper than buying a nice bookmark, too.

I have had this #bookmark for decades, it's travelled with me, moved house with me, I have to find it before I can start a new read!

@DoubleTreble
That is lovely, and I bet it feels special in a book.I have been given decorative bookmarks in the past and despite trying, I never got to grips with using them.

@bytebro
That is excellent! -
Bookmarks. Love them, hate them, fancy ones, scrap of paper, fold the corner of the page.
What do you use and why?
I just use an old tram or train ticket as I have never got on with specially made bookmarks.
I have a pile of tickets on the bedside table just to use as bookmarks.@Maker_of_Things Both random scraps AND pretty special bookmarks

@Maker_of_Things not being from the US, they have enough novelty to be interesting!

I made it from the front of a pack of
incense sticks when we lived in Germany and laminated it years later as it was getting very tatty 🤭 -

Or if they're really nice, I'll be afraid to use them for fear of losing them in a library book (though that might make a nice suprise for the next reader). The best is a fancy hardcover with a ribbon.

@Hellybootwader
I guess if it keeps the page, it's a bookmark!
