A2. Being a baldy makes scalp stings much more likely - I get stung by insects (bees wasps) which get stuck in the vent of my helmet. Not pleasant

#BikeNite A2 rolling along with the teenager and she said "thbbt! A bug hit my lips!", I said "did it hurt or just taste like pollen?" Seriously though, I have gotten a bee or something stinger-first in the shin at 20mph and I wish I had stopped to do something to it before riding another ~25min, like I rode past a grocery store and could have gotten baking soda or something. Probably even had bandages & antibiotic spray with me (cargo bike dad kit.)

I am terrified to think about what some of the Aussie riders might have experienced. Everything there seems to be extra mean and super poisonous

@ascentale @Brownian_motion @MartyCormack @bikenite #BikeNite A2. Recently, I had a bee land in my mouth while I was riding and fortunately I spit her back out before she had any thought to sting me for eating her. I started carrying Benadryl after that (someone here on Bike Nite mentioned that was a good idea... I now agree, lol).

@MatthewNewell @ascentale @Brownian_motion @MartyCormack @bikenite the risk of a snake is real. But getting hit by a too is more likely.

@ascentale @Brownian_motion @MartyCormack @bikenite A2. Two noteworthy ones. Worst was when I was cycling on my monotube USS recumbent from home to the gym in the next city. I wasn't more than a block away from home when a bee zipped into my helmet. I'm not allergic, but the sound of the buzzing near my head makes me lose all rationality so I put first one hand up to my head, then the other. Because the bb of a monotube 'bent is at the front, not underneath you, each pedal steers

@ascentale @Brownian_motion @MartyCormack @bikenite A2 cont'd. the 'bent a little. You can never ride no hands for this reason. You need at least one hand on the handlebars to correct for this.

My recumbent steered right into the nearest curb, where I jackknifed into my own frame, slicing open my brand new t-shirt and cutting me over my breastbone. Luckily nothing more serious than that. I eventually rode on to the gym.

@ascentale @Brownian_motion @MartyCormack @bikenite A2 cont'd. eyeball collided. It smacked hard on my eyeball, with immediate heavy watering of the eye and pain. Took a couple days to fully recover from that impact. I've also had an insect go straight down my throat. BLEAGH

@ascentale A2. Not lately, but when I was young and (more) foolish I was on the final downhill of my daily commute ride during high summer and a bee flew into the open neck of my shirt. It stung me more or less immediately, but somehow I managed to not be distracted and made it safely to my place of work, though I think people were a little surprised to see me pull my shirt off as soon as I dismounted.
