@ascentale @Brownian_motion @MartyCormack #BikeNite A2 A drawback to biking in the evening for us is lots more bugs hit our face. We definitely wear protective glasses to keep them out of our eyes. @bikenite

@ascentale @Brownian_motion @MartyCormack @bikenite A2. Once while in the middle of a mildly intense technical downhill, a bee flew into my helmet and started stinging me. I made it through, uncrashed.

@MarkBrigham @Brownian_motion @MartyCormack @bikenite @wanderinghermit I always thought the mesh was ridiculous until I heard that people actually do get stung on the head.

@ascentale @Brownian_motion @MartyCormack @bikenite #BikeNite A2. Recently, I had a bee land in my mouth while I was riding and fortunately I spit her back out before she had any thought to sting me for eating her. I started carrying Benadryl after that (someone here on Bike Nite mentioned that was a good idea... I now agree, lol).

@ascentale @Brownian_motion @MartyCormack @bikenite A2: Not while riding, but I was walking up the hill from the bus stop one day and this big hornet just came through the air in a big long arc out of nowhere, ran straight into the middle of my forehead, stung me instantly, and fucked off. It was like an intentional hit-and-run by a bee just because it could and I was all like YOU FUCKER

#BikeNite A2 rolling along with the teenager and she said "thbbt! A bug hit my lips!", I said "did it hurt or just taste like pollen?" Seriously though, I have gotten a bee or something stinger-first in the shin at 20mph and I wish I had stopped to do something to it before riding another ~25min, like I rode past a grocery store and could have gotten baking soda or something. Probably even had bandages & antibiotic spray with me (cargo bike dad kit.)

It smacked hard on my eyeball, with immediate heavy watering of the eye and pain. Took a couple days to fully recover from that impact. I've also had an insect go straight down my throat. BLEAGH

@ascentale A2. Not lately, but when I was young and (more) foolish I was on the final downhill of my daily commute ride during high summer and a bee flew into the open neck of my shirt. It stung me more or less immediately, but somehow I managed to not be distracted and made it safely to my place of work, though I think people were a little surprised to see me pull my shirt off as soon as I dismounted.
