@82mhz The video plays partway through, and then my browser shows an error about the file being corrupt. (I tried an Ctrl+Shift+R on the video, and it didn't help.)
Opening the video on the original page, it works, albeit getting hung up periodically through the video.@golemwire Don't know what to do about this, it plays fine here... so it uploaded correctly.

@82mhz Huh, OK, mainly just pointing that out just in case you did some unusual processing to the video. It could just be my system; maybe my browser is using GPU-accelerated video decoding, and it's not working right over Nouveau + Nvidia? IDK.

@golemwire Could also be a problem with the CDN where the video is stored... I don't know.

It's the same on warm boot, yes.Holding shift during boot gives me a "stuck key" error, tapping F10 seems to skip whatever diagnostics are running and gets me straight to GRUB without the beeps.
The message about "active protection" at the end seems to relate to a sensor which detects movement, maybe this one is faulty...

Any #Thinkpad experts here?
I have an older L420 on which I installed LInux. After it gets to the bios and before it opens the bootloader it beeps a seemingly random number of times. I have counted anywhere from 5 to 13 beeps. After it's done with this, it boots normally.
I've already flashed the latest bios and loaded the default values. No change.
Any idea what this could be? I've looked at several websites which explain thinkpad beepcodes, but none mention this behavior.
I checked the RAM and ran it with only one of the two installed modules, tested both and tested every slot, no change.
(the last, higher, beep is me turning the computer back off)
@82mhz Not a ThinkPad-specific suggestion, but that sounds like a stuck key on the keyboard

Might be, but then the OS runs perfectly. If a key is stuck I would expect some weird behaviour there... -

Unplug the internal keyboard and see if it continues.
Yeah makes no sense it’s not happening in OS but I’ve seen similar stuff happen on thinkpads caused by that.. -

Guess I gotta start taking it apart, but I don't have the time and space right now, so this will have to wait a bit.

Thanks for your input though, I will check the keyboard connection!@colinstu It seems like you guys were right. I took it apart, disconnected the keyboard and the beeping stopped. The keyboard has a problem...

@82mhz @howtophil hopefully it's just a matter of cleaning the switches/keys perhaps.
Do any keys feel stiff or sticky or don't depress all the way etc?
Worst case scenario the keyboard could be replaced. At least it's nothing more serious!

No the keys all feel fine. I booted it up again with the keyboard connected... this time no beeps, and an online keyboard test shows no keys permanently pressed. Maybe it was just a matter of cleaning and reseating the cable. Hopefully...
