@joonq @Tutanota @EUCommission I think it's clear its not about protecting kids. If it were, we'd be having a conversation about how it's a responsilibity of parents to... parent. This seems a blatant attack on online anonymity. It's sickening - I can't see one benefit and just security danger and data harvesting all wrapped up in one shitty package ๐Ÿ˜ž

@thereverend4253 @Tutanota @EUCommission Yep not to even talk about how this could easily lay the groundwork for a possible future authoritarian state to abuse. And also this creates criminals a market on selling fake ids. Like there are so many bad sides to this that i can imagine.

@joonq @Tutanota @EUCommission I'm so glad they're concentrating on the most pressing matter of them all though! /s. Of course when the inevitable data breach (lol, its going straight to Palantir or whichever other tech bro company), they'll shrug and say 'think of the children'. Which will be tone deaf and ironic in post Epstein files era. But surely they will be under same rules? Nope. Mission f-ing Accomplished, I guess.

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ ๐ŸšจFinal negotiations on Chat Control 2.0 just started between the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the Council of the EU.

        What is good:

โœ… Encryption will not be broken

        What is bad:

โŒ Commission & Council want #IDchecks

Lots of journalists, whistleblowers, activists and dissidents choose Tuta to protect their identity. We hope the European Parliament will stick to their decision to oppose mass #surveillance and #censorship.

@Tutanota beside state surveillance, have you seen the quantity of data leaks that includes passports, photos, and ID data? We can't trust private companies with that kind of information !

@Tutanota Could you or anyone please share some links to the official EU resources on the current state of things? Searching "chat control" often leads to other websites, and many are not up to speed yet, can't find nothin'

@Tutanota it doesnโ€™t matter if encryption will not be broken if you have ID checks. The irony is in Australia we are forced to upload government ID documents to use certain tools because of โ€˜protecting the childrenโ€™ it was never about protecting children it was all about control.

Now people blindly dox themselves ๐Ÿ˜‚

@urdle @Tutanota you canโ€™t trust your own government with that information and the fact theyโ€™re willingly letting people hand out that information is insanity. In the 90โ€™s and 2000โ€™s we were always taught not to upload personal information now everyone gives it up for free.

@Tutanota @joonq @EUCommission Damn right it is and the masses at large are not tech savvy at all so all they need to hear is "protecting kids". Narrator: it will do feck all to protect kids.
