folks it is a kind and lovely thing to favorite someone's post and anyone who tells you not to be kind and lovely has told you something about themself
it's true that it doesn't particulary increase the distribution of your post but the idea that we're all here to get things distributed as far as possible is pretty weird
@sarae Also fundamentally fails to understand that all interactions contribute to whether or not something makes it to trending pages in most server software (including Mastodon).

@sarae endorse. I'm sparing (and deliberate) with boosts but liberal with likes. It's intentional.

Fediverse truly is tumblr sometimes (they have the same round of posts like "always reblog instead of liking")

@sarae Shit like this is why I don't post on this account very much. There's always someone out there trying to tell me how to use the Fediverse according to their rules. It's also why I'm pretty liberal with using the block button.

@sarae@ecoevo.social i feel like liking things on here is good to get exposure to other people who are into things you like, and see other things they might do differently than you, that you might otherwise not really known about

@sarae I personally don’t fav because favs don’t autodelete as far as I can tell! But favs are great if you’re not worried about that!
@Recalcitrant @sarae yes that's my concern also
for a time (back when we had forget.codl.fr) I deleted favs manually but that is gruesome and not rewarding -

@sarae I hate the “don’t favorite posts” rhetoric. It’s really just an “I like this” message. No need to read passive aggression or other bad faith into it. I feel like I’m getting an entire level of communication taken away from me. That’s the last thing I need.
