making final decisions on the liveset for next month, had to kick the Rytm back into its box on the shelf because the screen is once again unusable.

@juneonline eventually will get it repaired by someone other than Elektron...detailed the situation in another comment ^>
@tsrono 3rd party is defo the best for something like this. hopefully someone comes up that can do a good replacement!!
i think ur issue is just a thing with cheap LCD’s… look at old roland displays, bunch of just shitting themselves lolol -
this is the 2nd screen i've had on it. 1st one was replaced by Elektron ~4 years ago. they just put in the same cheap shit they had in initially.
this is a big problem among mk1 users - there's at least 2 different people offering screen replacements that are much better, but install requires soldering which i am not good at, not going to do. eventually, i'll probably pay someone to replace the screen w/ a 2nd hand option, i don't think i want the mk2 option tho those screens may be better.
@tsrono had exactly the same issue with mine. Just gradually faded out until it was not usable. I quite liked it for a bit using just muscle memory and not having visual feedback but it just became annoying so on the shelf it lives.

@Maes_Matt exactly the same here, second time around now tho. best drum machine out there (tho the TR-1000 may have that title now? i digress...) but really hobbled by this screen issue.
the OLED option via the user below from Elektronauts might be what i end up doing, but there's a similar one on Reverb as well. both are not cheap, but sending it in to Elektron every 4 years isn't a long term solution, eventually they'll quit doing it (& shipping ain't cheap for that) https://www.elektronauts.com/t/oled-display-for-elektron-mk1-analog-devices-four-heat-keys-rytm/207919

@tsrono that’s frustrating. go for the screen upgrade and find a local tech to do it for you. i am terrible at soldering. once in a while if it’s a simple thing i can do it but wouldn’t risk it on a spendy machine. modwiggler.com used to have lists of techs in different states/cities. haven’t been there in a while so no idea if that’s still a thing but usually the DIY forum there is full of people in the know.

@tsrono yeah I've still got a spare screen somewhere that Elektron sent me. I was going to replace the screen but now that would involve actually taking it back out of the box again. I mean who in their right minds takes a synth back out of a box once it's been retired to storage? I'm not a madman

Although that OLED does look like a nice upgrade

@Maes_Matt lol one day i'll have all my synths out of their boxes & hooked up....one day.... ?

@ignatiusmusic def frustrating yeah
part of the hardware game, i guess.good to know modwiggler or similar places might have some resources for finding someone who can do the fix. i imagine most anyone with electronics experience could, it's supposedly a pretty simple replacement but like you said, it's spendy & i've got emotional attachment to this one, i'd rather keep it as long as i can. later this year probably.

@tsrono just the thought of having to open that Pandora's box of unlabelled PSUs sends shivers down my spine

@Maes_Matt lol i had to start labeling mine, it got too bad a couple years ago...not the kind of thing to be fast and loose about lol

@tsrono ach damn. My analog four is just about holding on with its 2nd screen, fingers crossed it doesn't go soon
