    @2legged
    I'm an Englishman* who has lived in Wales for 26 years. My Cymraeg is minimal but I absolutely welcome this!

    * my Plaid friends have declared me honorary Welsh though.

    @jamesb @2legged If you want to learn, btw, https://learnwelsh.cymru/ makes it quite easy and affordable.

    No requirement too, though, obv πŸ’–

      I am staggered by the sheer hugeness of this.

      The #WelshGovernment has a policy of bilingualism. All meetings include translators, so that speakers of English or Welsh can participate equally. But every member of the Welsh Cabinet is a native speaker of #Cymraeg, so the Cabinet meetings will be held in their native lsnguage.

      #PlaidCymru #Wales

      Imposing the #EnglishLanguage was a key component of the imperial project of Briritishness. But the tide has turned. πŸ’š 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

        Diolch, @owenblacker. That's very kind.

        I had long intended to do some proper learning of Cymraeg, to get me beyond the few dozen words taught by my dear friends in Eryri.

        But these days, my energy levels are too low to take on a project like that.

          @2legged
          Meanwhile in increasingly bilingual (or at least te reo Māori friendly) Aotearoa New Zealand, the right-wing coalition Government has announced that all government must use the English-first logos it is sending them by July 1.
          The Waitangi Tribunal, charged with protecting indigenous rights found the Crown breached the principles of te Tiriti o Waitangiβ€Š/β€Šβ€‹the Treaty of Waitangi, including rangatiratanga (chieftainship), partnership, active protection, equity and good government.

          Judge Te Kani Williams said any diminishing of Crown support for the revitilisation of te reo was a matter of serious concern.
          The Government's Māori-second policy arises from a demand by minority party New Zealand First in the coalition agreement.

            @2legged Good for Wales! Language is a large part of identity. The way language shapes thinking and communication is incredible.

              @2legged Do you have any sources other than this tweet? I am not finding any reporting on this. Lots about the new cabinet but nothing about the language of their meetings. I'd love to read more about it!

                The Lord Moylan is not happy about this. The Tory bankster from Kensington is shocked that a bunch of Welsh speakers in Wales, comprising the #WelshGovernment, speak in their shared native language! 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

                Couldn't they at least speak English, out of deference to some posh twat in London who likes to control the celts? πŸ˜…πŸ€£

                @2legged Perhaps they could alternate. In 600 years when balance has been restored.

                    Especially if it pisses off Reform Limited and their fascist followers then I'm all for it.

                    Hopefully they will use human translator so those of us without fluent Cymraeg can follow along though πŸ™‚
