What level of dark pattern is LinkedIn lying to your connections about what you are doing?
-
It creates total distrust in LinkedIn and the folks who work there, because: What else are they lying to you about? What are they telling my connections, without telling me?
It makes you think twice the next time you see anyone from LinkedIn at any conference, which is awful for them too!
And for what? Another useless metric for someone to get a bonus, instead of a good user experience?

Is LinkedIn also lying about post metrics? Are they lying about post interactions? Are they dangling LinkedIn premium in front of you, with fake engagement?
Lying to your audience never works out, because now every single thing is second guessed.

@RYStorm But it was a resounding success for the team working on the entirely unwanted and useless LinkedIn Games, as they were able to manage to hit engagement KPIs which ensured their team continued to exist for another quarter.

@RYStorm Sounds like something LinkedIn would do.

I got a notification of @eddcoates unlocking ‘Zip’, which made me think something nefarious was going on. He wouldn’t play that. So I asked him, and he did not play! LinkedIn fakes interactions!
@RYStorm the plausible deniability there probably being that your contact merely "unlocked" zip (it does not explicitly state he played it), which he probably did involuntarily because LinkedIn was programmed to unlock it for him. 🤮 But yeah, dark patterns 3000 and +100 on distrust. Distinction only in legal stuff probably, not in being shitty.

@RYStorm @eddcoates This can also be seen as a fraudulent implied endorsement of a product or service. They're implying that a person uses or plays a game in order to exploit pre-existing social connection or desire to be socially connected with a person in order to get you to play the game. This is no different than putting up a billboard of Scarlett Johansson and saying she smokes Lucky Strike brand cigarettes. Tobacco companies would get sued if they did this sort of thing.

@RYStorm @eddcoates I don't understand why LinkedIn is so intent on having people use their platform to play games. Entertainment has never been what LinkedIn was for. Do they make money from the games at all?

LinkedIn is a terrible piece of kit and it should be ashamed.

@RYStorm I’ve noticed for years that they lie about mutual connections when you get a connection request. If person C sends a connection request to me and one of my connections (person B) and neither of us accepted yet, LinkedIn tells me B and C are mutual connections.
