eons ago, when i explained what SEO is to a non-techie friend they looked at me puzzled and said it sounded like a scam; that people were basically giving free labor to Google for the chance of a high ranking they could completely upend without explanation.

YouTube charges advertisers to place ads, then charges consumers to remove them.
It’s like an entire empty ecosystem in a vacuum.

How advertisers even expect to be able to measure this is beyond me.
And why they would even think to trust the company.
They would be better off, going back to word-of-mouth
