Statement by Prime Minister Carney and Minister Anand on the situation in the Middle East
Canada’s position remains clear: the Islamic Republic of Iran is the principal source of instability and terror throughout the Middle East, has one of the world’s worst human rights records, and must never be allowed to obtain or develop nuclear weapons.

@mayintoronto @stephanie Aside from the usual “exporter of terrorism, nuclear weapons, etc.,” this might be part of the calculus for this statement (the video gives more detail about Pahlavi and protesters calling for the US to use the military to overthrow the Iranian regime).
North York demonstration draws 350,000 in support of anti-government protesters in Iran: Toronto police | CBC News
A rally in North York Saturday that drew an estimated 350,000 people called on the Canadian government to recognize Iran's exiled crown prince Reza Pahlavi as the leader of Iran’s democratic transition after anti-government protests erupted in Iran at the end of last year.

*not supporting the statement at all, just trying to get my head wrapped around it.

@Lynnd @stephanie I don't think any of those people with friends in Tehran want to see their cities bombed either.

@mayintoronto @Lynnd @stephanie many do actually. Or they hope it just targets the regime. But a lot of protesters had signs asking for Trump to intervene, MAGA signs. Many Israel flags were seen
So desperate for regime change they are willing to make a deal with the devil.
But whether that works is another matter, rare that air strikes alone are enough and eventually might turn in a full scale war and in that case we know Israel and US won’t care about Muslim lives.

Satire is too easy

After publishing an official statement on behalf of the Canadian government supporting the joint US-Israel bombings in Iran this morning, Prime Minister Carney was spotted happily putting the rules-based international order sign back in the window of Parliament.
“Look, guys, when I made that speech at Davos about ‘taking the sign out of the window due to increasing US aggression at the whims of an insane hegemon,’ I wasn’t talking about keeping it out forever,” Carney stated at a press conference on Parliament Hill. “I just figured the sign needed to be taken away for a fresh paint job and then immediately reinstated. Gotta keep that thing lookin’ fresh.”
Carney stressed the importance of Canadians understanding that when he said that the international order was now, “A system of intensifying great power rivalry, where the most powerful pursue their interests, using economic integration as coercion,” he was just speaking hypothetically for funsies, and definitely not about his good buddy Donald, who he definitely respects and isn’t afraid of.

You sure you did good not voting #NDP? Absolutely no regrets here
--
"The NDP strongly condemns the American and Israeli bombings of Iran. This is a dangerous escalation that risks dragging the entire region into a major conflict. The oppressive and bloody regime of the Ayatollahs is reprehensible, but its nuclear program must be managed through the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). In fact, its Director General, Mr. Grossi, recently indicated that he was working with the Iranian administration to resume inspections and reiterated that there could be no solution other than a diplomatic one.
The NDP deplores the Carney government's decision to blindly support this dangerous venture by Israel and Donald Trump's administration. We want Canada to be a voice for diplomacy, peace, and international law."
