    Damn. I’m getting a new company laptop.

    Fully locked down. No USB drives allowed. Bye, bye convenience and functionality. Hello Windows 11.

      @tokyobybike Yeah I can't access the file system on mine. Which means can't even install things. Even apps the company installs can't be updated by me. It's poorly thought out.

        @glen_malley I often work on site with devices that can not connect to the internet. This year alone I've saved the day 3 times as the only person who could transfer files via USB.

        So, I can either carry a 2nd private PC that works, or maliciously comply. I choose to comply. If they want to block me from doing my job, that's on them.

            @glen_malley This is the way.

            As we are assimilated by the borg that is our Japanese parent company we are being forced to give up many modern solutions .. for example giving up online calendars for office whiteboards. Its laughable. But comply I will, because you can't argue with old Japanese men.

                  @djb @glen_malley We've always been very free. We are adults we can manage our time ourselves. But now we are being assimilated in to Japanese corporate culture we are being treated like 5 year olds.

                    @djb @glen_malley @tokyobybike I recall many may years ago a problem submitting a sales proposal to a customer. Big big bit of business. Company IT systems blocked it. No help from IT/service desk. My breaking the rules (personal laptop etc) got the proposal in, business was won. Did I get thanks? No, interrogation by HR and security. I learned an important lesson

                      Yeah, very early lesson here too. Do not voluntarily try to make things better. It will only end badly for you.
