to artists, how do you usually go about advertising your sub based platforms like patreon?
and for the art enjoyers - what do you look for in a sub platforms, if anything? do you find certain ways artists advertise it annoying or damaging to your interest?
i struggle a lot in actually advertising my own platforms and i always wonder i there's something i could be doing better, but i'm also very aware its easy to be annoying about it esp in recent times where most of us are struggling so im just being a curious chee

I don't care too much about what sub platform the artists use (though I don't fancy having 10 accounts for various sites). Maybe best one where there are lowest fees so the artist get most of the money and not other companies as I often sub to artists to support them and rarely for the benefits.For the advertising. It doesn't bother me much seeing post about it unless it is every week. Monthly or every few months is fine imo. Could as well put it with CW (though that won't show in mastodon "trending" page) or add some tag that people could mute/cw if they want.
Edit: For the "ads" themselves. I think best works either having link to the sub platform in the art (footer?) or mentioning something like there is early access, full resolution or alts for subbed people. As well enjoy seeing sketches or wip. I would avoid posting censored work with purpose to make people pay to see it.

@vateo As an art enjoyer, I welcome a footer on art posts saying something like "high-res files and priority commission slots available to Patreon supporters".
I very much do mind the posts that are just a small crop and "full version available on Patreon". Intentionally creating FOMO like that will make me unsubscribe. It also makes the whole thing feel icky and transactional. The artists I support on Patreon I do because I want them to be able to create more art for everyone to enjoy, not because I want something special that nobody else has. -

As an art enjoyer, if I feel like your adverts overwhelm the art, I'll add your domain name to my filters (and then miss out on all the art you have attached to those posts).I did that to War and Peas.
I've got no objection to artists making a living (and plenty of jealousy considering I wasn't able to make it on my art), I just can't afford to contribute.

@vateo You can probably link your subscription platforms on a second post of art uploads (i.e. as a reply): that way it doesn't bloat the main post that is boosted etc. but it's still visible to people interested in supporting you. Maybe with a CW to also reduce the space it occupies in the home timeline.

@vateo The only thing I absolutely hate is cropped artwork, especially if its has dialogue that gets cut off. What I dont mind is stuff like "full res on Patreon", "more variantes on whatever" or "continuation on fanbox". And then just put the links in your bio or in a reply so they dont get annoying. Advertisment only posts are kinda icky for me but idk. -

Depends, things that mostly get me to subscribe to something is being able to commission otherwise closed artists, extra pages to comics, alts, etc.
As many people noted high res artworks are usually the least "offensive" option but honestly, as someone with a limited budget, I'm usually less likely to pay for that unless that person is one of my favorite artists ^^'

@vateo As an art enjoyer, I primarily look for artists that express the joy of creativity itself in the process. I love seeing artists enjoy themsevles! I am a singer and songwriter myself, and from my experience, the best music I've created or performed has hands down been music that I've been super stoked about.

@vateo I put my links in my bio, if I did advertise more often I would consider a separate channel to not clog my main art posting.
As a viewer I get annoyed with spammy posting, and I don't boost art posts that are also sneakily advertising (unless I'm boosting an advert specifically).
I believe in ppl's ability to come ask and find you when they are interested in buying art. Spam also makes the seller appear suspicious so it does more harm overall.

@vateo a link at the end of a post should be fine. If you don't want to do a link (link rot, etc.) maybe a reminder to check your description for your links would be enough instead. People who want to support you will find it.
Definitely put a link in a pinned post, profile description, and caard. Occasionally I've run into people I've wanted to support but could not find a way to do that anywhere. At the very least, I think having it in the profile description is the safest place.
Whether or not I sub usually depends on how deeply I connect with the artist's work/vision, and also what incentives there are. Based on artists I've subbed to, they had a particular niche I connected with and were working on bigger projects in that niche that I wanted more/extra content from, and subbing got me that.

@vateo I'm someone who very rarely subscribes to paid art, but it doesn't annoy me at all if subscription platforms or donations (like Ko-Fi) are advertised. Y'all gotta eat, I understand that.
I'm fine with high-res and early access being paid. I'm a stingy fucker though and will probably wait it out until the free release. -
