The Fairbuds XL just became the first headphones to earn a 10/10 repairability score on our new headphone scorecard! Replaceable battery. Replaceable ear pads. Modular design. Actual repair manuals. This is what headphones look like when they’re built to last instead of built for the landfill.

@iFixit it will soon be time to start rating phones for how easily they accept #customROM (s) given #google (s) intent to lock down third party app stores for android like #fdroid ... this is a real "repair" situation for many people.

@lps @iFixit this is a good reference point for bootloader unlock support, which should be part of such a rating

                  https://github.com/zenfyrdev/bootloader-unlock-wall-of-shame

custom ROM / alternative OS support is harder to track and quantize given that there's so many types and support (official or unofficial) scattered across XDA Forums, Telegram, GitHub that it's really hard to find them all

So probably just checking if there's support from the most popular ROM, LineageOS, and most popular alternative OS, postmarketOS would be the only reliable way for that to work right now.

@iFixit actually quality devices from Sennheiser and the like have spareparts like forever. Where is the news?

@iFixit Worldwide partner is Amazon which sells them for US$ 229.99, delivery to Salem, Oregon: tomorrow. https://www.amazon.com/Fairphone-Headphones-Cancelling-Weatherproof-Replaceable/dp/B0G3BBB581/ref=dp_prsubs_d_sccl_1/134-9797055-8779513?pd_rd_w=cTO7t&content-id=amzn1.sym.a1c22caf-2d4a-4c58-b920-210b8f6b9234&pf_rd_p=a1c22caf-2d4a-4c58-b920-210b8f6b9234&pf_rd_r=WVCNEG9G9FV1131HY1CZ&pd_rd_wg=6BaBd&pd_rd_r=9c06aec0-1fe0-45e3-8c4c-24780f4fc218&pd_rd_i=B0G3BBB581&th=1

Doesn't look like Amazon carries the phones which may not be built/designed for the US market?

@jasper @iFixit check for models for pro/studio use. Cables and Pads are available, I just replaced pads on a 10 year old model. Similar for AKG, Beyerdynamic. Maybe not for the consumer models.

Search for another 5 seconds and you'll find the reviews telling you those third-party replacements are bad quality, in terms of sound and needing replacement themselves every year.

@jasper @iFixit yeah, ok, fair enough. Sometimes the aftermarket spares are not worth it, too true. I try to avoid those as well.

The Fairbuds XL just became the first headphones to earn a 10/10 repairability score on our new headphone scorecard! Replaceable battery. Replaceable ear pads. Modular design. Actual repair manuals. This is what headphones look like when they’re built to last instead of built for the landfill.

@iFixit Worldwide partner is Amazon which sells them for US$ 229.99, delivery to Salem, Oregon: tomorrow. https://www.amazon.com/Fairphone-Headphones-Cancelling-Weatherproof-Replaceable/dp/B0G3BBB581/ref=dp_prsubs_d_sccl_1/134-9797055-8779513?pd_rd_w=cTO7t&content-id=amzn1.sym.a1c22caf-2d4a-4c58-b920-210b8f6b9234&pf_rd_p=a1c22caf-2d4a-4c58-b920-210b8f6b9234&pf_rd_r=WVCNEG9G9FV1131HY1CZ&pd_rd_wg=6BaBd&pd_rd_r=9c06aec0-1fe0-45e3-8c4c-24780f4fc218&pd_rd_i=B0G3BBB581&th=1

Doesn't look like Amazon carries the phones which may not be built/designed for the US market?

I'd suggest trying to buy it from a non-amazon source if you're looking for a phone.
