Forgive me for sounding like a broken record, but we are not a Christian nation. We are a nation where you are free to be a Christian.
Your religion guides you, not all of us. It’s as simple as that.
Keep that shit in your hat.

@Strandjunker "This is a Christian nation!" cry all the assholes who don't really know what that means and just use the statement as a club against anyone whose opinion they don't like.

@Strandjunker @mastodonmigration Religion shouldn't identify a nation. It's a personal, intimate choice. That said, we must be aware that there are some values which should be universal, compatible with every religion. Peace, justice, human rights. However we know that religions often want to control our primal activities (sex and food) as it's the only way they can control entire populations.
On food we have some reasons - christian or muslim period where the observants shouldn't eat. It's to save food resources, originally in poor countries maybe. Until spring brings fresh fruits/seeds etc. Indians don't eat cows because they're good for milk... But unfortunately these rules have conditioned people for centuries.
That said, in my country we have our prime minister Giorgia Meloni whose motto is "I'm Giorgia, I'm a woman, I'm Italian, I'm a mother, I'm Christian".
Well, to quote you: you're free to be christian but you talk for yourself! -

@Strandjunker Emo Philips has a long joke I don’t have the space to recite here but the general idea is that religion is schismatic and we get violent about it. Forcing the government to get violent about enforcing the religious schism of the minute is a well tested bad idea. https://www.theguardian.com/stage/2005/sep/29/comedy.religion

@Strandjunker My daughter‘s mother-in-law is a Trumper and she went to the beach with us today and they mentioned it. I told them I believe in the separation of church and state and would never participate in this type of sinister event.

@Strandjunker The extreme right has some distorted belief that they are responsible for the actions of others (their brand of morality imposed on others)...until they are asked to help support those who cannot support themselves.
At that point they completely reverse their position and say others have to pull their weight especially those who have no arms or legs to pull anything.

@Strandjunker I don’t mind christianity, but something has me worried about some of its followers.
In the few occasions I have discussed religion with a christian and I inform them that I’m an atheist, this question has popped up, in one way or another, multiple times:“If you don’t believe in heaven and hell, what’s keeping you from [insert violent crime here]?
Yeah, you should hang on to your religion and never question it.

@Strandjunker I know this is probably an Iranian bot account, WIRED reported on you previously. Still, it's good you're giving Americans something to believe in.

@kaito02 @Strandjunker yeah while i was reading the post i was like "huh this definitely applies to my country" then i reread it to realise no specific nation was even mentioned (none in their bio either)
perhaps they meant it in a more general sense? referring to society in general -

And "Christianity" is not a monolith, rather it has many - sometimes hostile - factions.
In fact, it's because of intra-Christian rivalries that America was explicitly founded without a religion.
(And yes, the colonies had other, non-Christian residents and *still* didn't even define a broad Christian mandate)
