What are the go-to places for used test and measurement equipment in western Europe?
-
More concretely:
Classifieds sites: kleinanzeigwen in DE, ricardo in CH, leboncoin in FR, etc.
Industrial auctions: restlos, haemmerle, surplex, apex-auctions.
Also many junk peddlers on eBay will accept pretty serious lowball offers - always worth a shot.
If anyone knows anything better I'm all ears... But also keep in mind we're more in market for general lab equipment, not just test/measurement equipment.
(also this is for actually good deals when you have zero budget and infinite time; if you have actual budget and need some warranty and stuff in stock then you're better off going to more specialized suppliers which are the ones usually buying off these industrial auctions and then mark that shit up 3x or more)

@azonenberg @fafo @wamserma I wouldn't expect to find this on the second hand market yet, at least not in the open. It might be easier to assume that you're going to buy new and just get a quote from whoever is the local Teledyne reseller.

@q3k @azonenberg @fafo @wamserma probably too new to find them being sold off ex-hire from test equipment rental companies, too.

@gsuberland @q3k @fafo @wamserma There's like three or four 8000/9000 series scopes on US eBay now, although I expect pickings in Europe are slimmer.
I bought a used 8404 in 2020 direct from LeCroy when the 9000 series came out and the sales team was dumping all of their 8000 series demo units cheap

@gsuberland @q3k @fafo @wamserma My old 8104 was a test equipment rental fleet retiree, as was the HDO9104 I had after that.

@azonenberg @gsuberland @fafo @wamserma Unfortunately that's not how the used test equipment market looks like here. The usual you'll get is stuff like https://www.ebay.de/itm/296061617249 . That's the only WaveRunner 8/9k series on sale right now as far as I can tell. And it actually seems like a really good price.

@q3k @gsuberland @fafo @wamserma I mean that's not a terrible price for an 8404, I wanna say mine was $20K asking price and I traded in an 8104 and paid like $13K cash?
Admittedly that was 2020 so I would expect them to have depreciated a bit since then (and mine was a -MS so it had the MSO option)

@q3k @gsuberland @fafo @wamserma But work doesnt need anything quite that fancy I was thinking 1-2 GHz class

@azonenberg @gsuberland @fafo @wamserma (and maybe consider a higher end new Rigol instead)

@azonenberg @gsuberland @fafo @wamserma (and maybe consider a higher end new Rigol instead)
@q3k @gsuberland @fafo @wamserma We specifically want good PC interface performance for ngscopeclient and custom signal processing, LeCroy is the current leader for that at least among models I've checked. Rigols and Siglents are awful by comparison
-
@azonenberg @q3k @fafo @wamserma adding for the Netherlands: Dutch techie website tweakers.net has a decent classifieds section that occasionally includes lab equipment (e.g. https://tweakers.net/elektronica-en-tweaking/aanbod/)
There also is very limited ebay presence there, most stuff is traded via marktplaats.nl (ironically an ebay subsidiary), see e.g. https://www.marktplaats.nl/q/teledyne/
That said, secondhand markets in Europe tend to be on country-/language-specific platforms, i.e. scattered and harder to search

@q3k @gsuberland @fafo @wamserma concrete numbers: rigol MSO5074, 1 channel, 1M points does 1.43 WFM/s or 1.43 Msps / 11.4 Mbps over SCPI LAN.
At 10M points it'll do 0.54 WFM/s or 5.4 Msps / 43.2 Mbps.Siglent SDS6204A at 2.5M points on one channel does 2.04 WFM/s, 5.1 Msps, 40.8 Mbps.
For comparison my LeCroy SDA (the WR8K is similar I just dont have those numbers handy) will do 10.1 WFM/s on *2* channels at 1M points, 20.2 Msps / 323 Mbps (16 bit transfer resolution even though 8-bit ADC because of internal DSP flatness corrections). One channel at 8M points is still 2.87 WFM/s, 22.9 Msps, 367 Mbps.
With four channels active and using the FastWavePort feature the SDA can do 13.4 WFM/s with 1M point memory depth, which is 53.6 Msps or 857 Mbps, not quite saturating gig-e but respectably fast. This is over an OOM faster than the Rigol.

@q3k @gsuberland @fafo @wamserma of course none of these can compete with the ThunderScope pushing 50 WFM/s with 20M point memory depth (1000 Msps / 8000 Mbps) but that doesn't have 1 GHz of bandwidth so until they release a faster model I'm stuck with slower PC performance

What are the go-to places for used test and measurement equipment in western Europe? Work is looking to expand one of their other labs and I'm only plugged into the north American refurb scene.
@azonenberg
These two are my go-to's here.
https://www.eqtsolutions.fi/
https://eastrp.fi/index.html
ETP seems to have just updated their web page completely and are still filling it. And even in the past the best way has been to email them directly with your inquiry "I need a signal generator that can do this, preferably cheap. What do you have?" -

@azonenberg LeCroy has good ex demo sales regularly. We typically try to buy these as you can at least half off the sticker price. I just got an email from them today for HDO6104B-MS and MDA8208HD.
For used stuff there is instrumex.de (I think they are connected with testequity somehow now).

@owiecc wait you're still getting ex demo sales? Ping me with your sales contact or something.
My US refurb sales rep got laid off a year or two ago and I thought they had just shut down the refurb sales department because the eBay store he used to run was empty
