This is probably going to be a very unpopular opinion. But I don't believe it violates any rules, so I'm going to say it anyway. People need to get over these celebrity deaths. Oh I'm so broken because this actor/actress died. Oh I'm so torn up because this celebrity passed away. Hey people? Breaking news. Celebrities, actors, actresses, famous people are still people. They are still human beings. They still walk, talk, breathe, eat, piss and shit just like the rest of us. And unfortunately some of them have life ending diseases or conditions, just like us. Unfortunately, some of them have mental health issues and or addiction issues, just like some of us. Their celebrity status does not grant them immortality. Their celebrity status does not grant them immunity from personal problems, mental health issues, or addiction problems. And yes I say problems not challenges because I hate the word challenges. Let's call it what it is. One might die at 105 after living a good long life. One might die at 40 by cancer, or by any other method that anyone of us on the face of this earth could die from. Oh they won't be able to go on and pursue other projects and put out any more material for us. But you know what? Chances are that if they have notoriety, they've already put out tons of material for us to enjoy. Or at least enough to gain said notoriety. And there is always someone else up and coming to take their place. So seriously. Get over it, move on, and live your life. They're dead, you're not. Thank you and have a wonderful rest of your day.

@Cam Wow. Harsh much? People have the right to grieve whoever and however they choose. Someone can grieve just as much for a well known person as average joe from down the street. It doesn’t make their grief any less valid because the person is well known. People have the right to mourn others who created works that touched them. Telling people to just get over it is like telling someone to just get over any other death.

@ratking well I'm sorry not sorry Ratty. Sometimes we all need a cold hard dose of reality. And quite honestly I'm tired of seeing people whingeing and whining about these celebrity people who died. They don't give a shit about us, they don't know us personally. We don't know them personally. We don't know them or their personal lives. To them we're just fans. They wouldn't be torn up if anyone of us died. And I'm certainly not saying that they're passings are sad, because they are. But seriously get over it.

@Peacefulsoul17 well I'm sorry you feel that way Jess. But I did preface that statement with an unpopular opinion alert. I have a right to my opinion just as you have a right to yours. But for the past three days it's been all over my timeline, and I'm frankly sick of it. So I'm expressing my opinion which I have the right to do, just as you all have the right to express yours.

@Cam Of course you have a right to express your opinion. I just think the way you went about it was quite insensitive.

@Peacefulsoul17 it may very well have been insensitive. But I don't think I could've said that and any other nicer way. I could've been way more harsh than I was. And I agree. It was probably a cold hard dose of reality. But I feel that some people need that sometimes.

@Cam How is other people‘s grief affecting you? It isn’t. It’s not hurting you. I think what people need in times of grief is comfort and kindness. Not someone telling them to just get over it.

@Cam Sure. Over anybody. Celebrity or not. Grief is grief. When Aretha passed away, I grieved. For a month. Nobody can tell me that wasn’t real or valid. If someone had told me to just get over it, I probably would’ve ended the friendship. She didn’t know me, and certainly wouldn’t have grieved me for a month if I had passed before her, but that’s not the point. Her work and life touched me.

@Peacefulsoul17 I guess I'm just frustrated because it's everywhere I look, everywhere I turn. But I make no apologies for what I said and I 100% stand behind it. I said it would be an unpopular opinion, and I knew very well as I wrote it that it would be. And if I come off as an insensitive prick because of it, everyone is entitled to their opinion of that too.

@Cam People have a right to express how they feel and you have a right to scroll on by. Or mute the person until it passes or whatever. You also have a right to state your opinion, insensitive though it may be. I don’t think you personally are an insensitive prick, but that opinion was cold and harsh. And I would hope that if I came to you expressing grief over a person, celebrity or not, you wouldn’t just tell me to get over it. But if you did, that would still be your opinion. I’m learning that certain friendships are better for certain topics and you can’t just talk about anything with everybody. And sometimes people will disappoint you or won’t act in a way that you feel makes sense. And it hurts, but humans are gonna human I guess. Every single one of us on this earth has disappointed somebody in one way or another. In the past week, I have experienced a school shooting in a tiny town in my province, the death of one of my favorite actors, and another celebrity who passed away far too young. The world feels heavy. None of it directly affects me, but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt. This whole week just feels heavy. This whole month, really. Hopefully the fog will lift soon. Let’s all just be kind to one another and try to find Joy where we can get it.

@Peacefulsoul17 yes. That school shooting was absolutely tragic. No way I would ever be insensitive over something like that. Whatever motives the shooter had, nobody deserved to die like that. That kind of thing doesn't happen here in Canada.

@Cam I mean, apparently it does. It’s awful. And the town had a population of 2400 people. You know everybody knew every single one of the victims and the shooter. Just awful. I can’t even imagine.

@Cam One of my friends told me last night that she is familiar with the town, and it looks like a Fisher-Price town. Everything is close together, and it’s tiny and cute and looks pretend. It’s always terrible when something like this happens, but even worse when in a tiny town we’re literally everybody knows everybody.

@Peacefulsoul17 I can't imagine either. I hope Kearney and all the premieres of all our provinces decide to do more and do better when it comes to improving access to mental health support. Here in Ontario, you have to make a really seriously damn good case about why you need mental health support. It's crazy. You should be getting it just by saying you need it.

@Peacefulsoul17 and it's not like you get referred to a therapist or psychologist when you get it at all. You're referred to a social worker.

@Cam Wow. I haven’t even really tried to get it because I know I can’t afford it. But I sure could use it! I think I get a certain amount of sessions through work or something but it’s virtual and seems kind of strange. I guess it’s better than nothing. Mental health support should be free.

@Cam I get what you're saying but they may not know us. but they may of had through their craft had a profound impact on our lives. example I'm not the only one who cried when chester from linkon park died. or james earl jones well there went my childhood cuz darth vador and mufassa. so yeah. cold hard truth I get but we're still allowed to feel.

@Cam Wow. I haven’t even really tried to get it because I know I can’t afford it. But I sure could use it! I think I get a certain amount of sessions through work or something but it’s virtual and seems kind of strange. I guess it’s better than nothing. Mental health support should be free.

@Peacefulsoul17 rarely will I ever do virtual healthcare. If it's a pain in my ass to get to Toronto, and if it's for an ongoing issue, I don't mind talking to my doctor on the phone. But if it's for something new, or something that I deemed to be serious, I will do everything I possibly can to physically get into the office.

@Cam Agreed. If I wanted to just tell some stranger who I’m never going to meet all my problems, I would go on Reddit. Lol. Virtual counseling where it’s unlikely you will ever meet your counselor just feels very weird to me.
