    @wffl do you have a specific style or material in mind? Are you more interested in paying for one that's customized, or making one? Felting is a super accessible craft to get into if you don't already know it, also a great way to detail a plain premade base. I'm not sure if there are DIY witch hat tutorials that are super easy, but I'm betting there would be. If you want help figuring out something that might work for you or want some tips (specifically on needle felting), feel free to DM me.

    @secretsloth not sure about material, but I think I do have a style in mind. Ideally I want a big brim and the pointy bit should be not be straight. probably not surprisingly my biggest inspo is simz's art (I will probably have to compromise on the brim at least a bit bc big brim is hard physically).

    I think I'm more interested in paying for one, rather than making it, just on the basis of "I know I'll procrastinate on this forever". but then again, if making it myself isn't too hard, that also sound appealing, I could at least try yk ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

      hi fedi! does anyone happen to know how to acquire a nice witch hat?

      (i.e. people who sell them, would be willing to make them, or maybe even just instructions I can follow myself)

      I desperately need a witch hat to complete my character, especially given the upcoming talks I'll be giving '

      by "nice" I mean something that I could wear daily, something that brings joy, something that's well made, looks nice up close, and will last forever. (I can find a lot of bad hats, but what's the point...)

      reposts are appreciated, mrrrow,,,

              @wffl @secretsloth Iโ€™m halfway through procrastifinishing a crocheted witch hat. Itโ€™s pretty easy to do without a specific pattern IF you already know very basic stitches. If that is something youโ€™re interested in as a backup plan to buying one, I can see if I bookmarked the video that first put that bee in my pointy bonnet.

                      @wffl if crochet is an option, there are some nice patterns on Etsy. Here is a free one which I personally adore - it's not your typical witch hat but I think you can make it work:

                            @wffl since it is also a material that lends well to being stiffened, you could get a bigger brim out of it. Felt is pretty flexible, and not shiny of course, you can add texture kind of as you like, it can be stiff or more floppy, and is kind of classic hat material. Softer than leather, but you can get a decent brim especially if you add a stiffer material around the outer edge. The cheapy ones are usually like, those nylon Halloween costume ones. Those fall apart. Leather or felt ๐Ÿ’ช

                              @wffl oh! Or quilted cotton can work I think? I've seen quilted witch hats. Not a big brim and I believe they do need to be re starched after washing sometimes? But yes! This is a thing. Sorry. I'm a bit nerdy about fiber and fabric crafts and have considered making a witch hat for myself in the not distant past ๐Ÿ˜… never could narrow down a style though, too many good ones.

                                  If you don't mind paying someone a lot more than amazon, go to your local tailor or dry cleaner. I bet they'd be excited to do something besides hemlines and waistbands.

                                  Hit up a fabric store, and ask for advice on the materials. Then provide them to the tailor. That way they're less likely to resist [people don't like doing extra work outside their job description]

                                    @mycrowgirl @secretsloth I don't think I'll be crocheting any time soon, but I think some other people in the comments might appreciate the guide regardless :')

                                    @wffl considering I still havenโ€™t finished mineโ€ฆ I get that ๐Ÿ˜

                                    The original video I donโ€™t have bookmarked, but it was a vaguely woodsy witchy dude on tiktok who made his own that nudged me into trying it.

                                    I was struggling with the top to brim transition and this other video on YT is what I used to figure out a better way to do the increases and transitions: https://youtu.be/OwHd7rnsmxI

                                        @wffl i would call your local tailors and see what they say.
