    @Cassandra_Complex @freyjfreyj @ben
    They apparently have to work solo in airports where they are used to working as armed gangs in the streets.

    Funny, there's a lot of photos of them just standing about chatting with each other.

      @stonykark what are you doing to help?

      I've voted against this administration at every step, I'm a member of multiple activist groups, I host community events, hand out defense whistles and active reporter instructions, shut down fascist websites, admin/moderate two Fedi communities, do suicide-prevention outreach, teach folx about security and data privacy, and still drag myself out of bed to toot about cats and post my nudes for yall's entertainment.

      Saying "you need to do more" to folx suffering under a dictatorship is even less useful than standing by watching it.

        @ben If Americans don't think they're gong to be "scrutinized" by Trump's personal ICE army at polling stations, they're more naive than even he imagines.

          @alice @ben @msbw I live in the oil rich part of canada so the things I've done to help (left tech, became a paramedic, got my gun license) are going to be different from what you need to do. I need to protect my community from america, whereas you need to overthrow your government and hang every nazi bastard. I tried just watching, it ate me up inside for years. Doing things is absolutely fucking terrifying, but for me it's a little less scary to get my hands dirty.

              Steve Bannon seems to agree, in a more malicious manner.

              Steve Bannon Calls ICE at Airports a Good ‘Test Run’ for Deployment to 2026 Midterm Polls | Common Dreams

              Steve Bannon suggests using ICE agents at airports as a test run for their involvement in the 2026 midterms. Critics warn of voter suppression tactics.

                @kitkat_blue @ben Agreed, but their methods are... I don't want to say the word "sneaky" but incremental and just barely slow enough that people apparently have time to integrate them into their lives first before realizing that they just gave away another fundamental right that should have been a final line in the sand.

                It won't be just all of a sudden Trump announcing tomorrow there will be no vote. They'll work their way up a bit at a time until November and then somehow make it "ok."

                @nazokiyoubinbou @ben

                oh, absolutely! and more like slow-walking in a blizzard. as there are actions almost daily that fudge the midterms. Big ones are mail-in voting, which is 90% blue states--some big states...the whole west coast plus CO and several smaller states. Also the USPS has taken steps to set up more chaos with messing with postmarks and setting up for suspension of services because of funding. Also the supreme ct case on mail-in. so yes...lots of "steps" and more to come i'm sure.

                    @amanda Trump has deployed ICE to US airports to “help”. Bannon has described it as a good dry run for deploying them to polls in November.

                        @ben yep. The idea of them being there for "crowd control" at the Atlanta Airport is very concerning. They purposely set up a situation where we would have TSA shortages and long security lines, with no one to control the ensuing chaos, then sent in these goons.

                        This is going to get ugly fast. Down from 36 lines to 2. Some lines are over four hours long. They are definitely going to make sure that voting takes forever as well, and then look for excuses to bash heads in the name of crowd control. It's clear where this is headed: martial law.
