@rasterweb @Daojoan Every day, as I age and live in this country, under my dystopian government, I feel like I’m living in that movie Idiocracy—except this version is no comedy.

@archivescribe @Daojoan I think the Internet has had two effects: we are more knowledgeable but also *less* knowledgeable. The ability to just “look things up” means we don’t have to learn or remember things.

@tasharoni @Daojoan the whole "drink more water" meme has partly become a big thing because something like 40% of the US population is prediabetic. Dehydration is one of the symptoms

@HakeemG @Daojoan Back in the 60s and 70s, we rode to school in the backs of dinosaurs and wrote on stone with chisel in class…and we liked it!

I’m just kidding, but yeah, I admit, older folk have a bad of habit of being overly nostalgic sometimes.

@Daojoan they used to sell car batteries with booklet manuals, for complete refit and overhaul of a Lead-Acid 12V DC,~500CCA battery.

Lately, the batteries have idiot warnings, telling customers to NOT break the seal and drink the fluid inside.

What’s scarier is that those labels need only be there ‘cos someone DID drink the fluid.

@Daojoan It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if the hunter-gatherers from before the Neolithic revolution were way smarter than the average person nowadays tbh.

Afaik there's some evidence that brain sizes have shrunk since people started settling down in cities etc.

@MxVerda @Daojoan Well, I'm hardly an expert, but I imagine the lack of pollution in the environment and people getting copious amounts of exercise meant they were, in general, really quite healthy.

Of course it was a much tougher world, with fewer guarantees, more danger etc. But from what I understand the fact it took more effort to stay alive is exactly what made people be more capable.

@Daojoan was strongly reminded about this when watching the clumsy maneuvering of the #Artemis2 astronauts in their Orion capsule. Way more comfortable but technologically not any better than the original from more than 50 years ago

@Daojoan I'm kind of the opposite: I keep calling myself stupid and a horrible person, even though there are people worse than I am. It's just that 1: I'm honest about it, and 2: maybe the whole "you're the opposite of what you say" could be true for me
