Offering opportunities to those who have yet to find their place within the scene, or who do not have an extensive track record, is, for us, a genuine responsibility. It is true that investing in emerging talent carries a certain degree of risk. For that very reason, many artists in this position often struggle to find an established label willing to release their music. Self-promotion can be an exhausting process: resources are limited, exposure is scarce, and repeated rejection can easily lead to frustration, and sometimes even abandonment. At Evel, we take this role very seriously. We receive submissions from a wide range of artists and stylistic backgrounds. Within that vast amalgamation of music, we frequently encounter work that does not align with our aesthetic direction or that requires further technical development. Yet, from time to time, we come across genuine rough diamonds, projects with identity, sensitivity and artistic potential that deserve careful development and proper presentation. The new release from Tyler South is a clear example of this. After listening closely to his previous publications through his own Bandcamp platform, it became evident that he possesses an innate talent for more experimental and daring forms of music. The algorithms he had developed to construct intricate rhythmic patterns and complex structural frameworks, all immersed in an atmosphere of deep abstraction, left us genuinely astonished. Following several conversations and further listening sessions involving new demos, we worked together to guide the project towards something we consider essential within a label’s philosophy: preserving the artist’s musical vision while ensuring that the audience is given a framework through which they can engage with and understand the proposal. This process ultimately gave birth to Plygient, an album comprising ten striking tracks in which the artist’s multiple facets converge with clarity and cohesion. Each piece articulates its own discourse, reaffirming a distinctive sonic identity while contributing to a carefully constructed and compelling whole. Throughout the process, Tyler, has shown remarkable generosity and patience, fully committed to refining every necessary detail in order to bring the album to its fullest expression. That openness and humility have undoubtedly played a key role in achieving the maturity the record now embodies. At Evel, we can only express our gratitude and extend our most sincere congratulations. Thank you for the sounds, the rhythms and the coherence.
