      @Ailantd all Y axes should start at zero. Not that it's not terrifying, I agree! I'm just always skeptical of any graph that clips the Y axis. Regardless of intent it skews the perception

        @Ailantd all Y axes should start at zero. Not that it's not terrifying, I agree! I'm just always skeptical of any graph that clips the Y axis. Regardless of intent it skews the perception

            @kmck @jfaulken @Ailantd agreed. Imagine showing this with zero degrees Kelvin on the y-axis.

            I generally agree with what you said if we are talking about bar charts, which imply a total quantity.

                @kmck @Ailantd true, but the visible delta between the lines on the graph would be much closer together if the scale were compressed to include zero. But I do see your point about the zero line for C° not being as relvant as something counted (currency, sales, deaths).

                    @samfirke @kmck @Ailantd thinking about this for a moment and I think I've actually come around. The graph contains all temperatures inside the range it shows. This is the relevant data set, regardless of distance from zero. It's the coldest to hottest ever, inclusive. It makes more sense this way WITHOUT y being zero-based.
