      Collecting pokemon and stuff is fun but have you tried "collecting" birds?

      My current favorite activity of the day is letting my phone listen for a few minutes and then enjoying to see what little friends gather outside the house.

      I really want to setup a bitnet RasPi to listen 24/7 🤔 I've also seen that there's a commercial thing now called bird weather.

        @bleeptrack Merlin Bird ID? Works also great under noisy conditions... Looking forward for your 24/7 project 🥹🥰

            @txo_elurmaluta Merlin 🙂 (has the slightly worse classification net but the way nicer UI than birdnet)

                  @txo_elurmaluta @bleeptrack On Android you can use whoBIRD from F-Droid instead of BirdNET. Or in addition, both UIs have their advantages

                    @bleeptrack

                    BirdnetPi is really fun.
                    The UI is a bit clumsy but it's still really cool.

                    There was also another implementation - all these things, including the Merlin app on your celly, depend on the same CNNs developed at Cornell Uni (aaaaand I just read that you already seem to know that) - but I forgot the name.

                    Bird weather by the way is a citizen science project.
                    You can automatically fill it with your BirdnetPi installation.
                    You can also config a treshold so no human sounds get send.

                          That said, BirdnetPi is inherently prone to errors and can't be set up perfectly.

                          You can evaluate recognitions ex post but still will only get false positives that way. And it's work.

                          I think Bird Weather takes this into account somehow but I forgot how.
                          The numbers you see there on a given day when you look up installations in your area should be taken with a grain of salt, I guess.

                              @bleeptrack I used Acoupi on a pi, it's really good. It can send detections live too, I rigged it up to post detections to a mastodon account

                                  @bleeptrack can highly recommend Birdnet-go (it can feed into birdweather). Great way to narrow down the time when scanning video recordings for certainty species too.
