It took 37 minutes for a Fedi ‘reply guy’ to question my call for help on my website.

@britt It is because of people like this that I hesitate to offer help. Even people like you who were able to ask for help.... I dont want to be That Person so its hard to get me to talk, even if I think I know the answers to someome's question.
@Catwoman69y2k I think offering help when it’s asked for is perfectly okay. 100% not in the ‘reply guy’ category. Especially , if you felt you can offer value that someone is asking for. Please don’t hesitate to do that.
You seem to care enough that I don’t think you’d ever be That Person. The individual didn’t offer any help and just put me down for asking for help, like I should know how to do what I’m asking for help for by myself. That — that’s where the problem lies.

@britt I can say, I have done migrations (from other ecommerce product listings) to WooCommerce before. I have never done a (straight) migration from Etsy to WooCommerce but I definitely think the act of moving away from Etsy has to be more common, since they have made so many changes.
How immediate is your need to move? Asking this question, only because I remember how often Etsy pulled shenanigans (Like, they arent the DIY/handmade operation they used to claim to be. )

@Catwoman69y2k great questions! I’m not needing imminent help, and I’m comfortable taking my time to get it right. I will keep Etsy going for passive income once I move, but won’t focus on it as my main source of sales. I plan to drive my own traffic, which I’m comfortable doing.
Ideally, the migration is as smooth as possible but I’m open to manually creating listings again as I have under 100 at the moment. The biggest hurdle I had last time I tried this? Photos and video on the same listing. For some reason, I couldn’t get WooCommerce to do this for me. It’s critical that my customers see what I sell in use (and even hear samples/examples), so I gave up.

@sarajw
It really is. It’s exhausting. I honestly get anxious if one of my posts pops off, knowing it will likely come with an emotional toll of replies like that. I try to weigh the positives.
@britt yeah it is. It's that authoritative tone that you have to really like, work through before you can smell the bullshit. Or that's how it is for me.

Yes, in fact, I *do* need help because — I asked for it?!
Folks, call it out when you see it please. This space is becoming way too comfortable for people who are ableist, condescending, give unsolicited/unhelpful advice, and target women with their replies.

@britt “You just have to“ or “Why don’t you just“ should become synonymes of this space.

@britt Ah, so does that mean you have started the process? (In that, you already rolled out a Wordpress/Woocommerce site (on a host server)... but now you just have to figure out the same-image issue + having audio samples on some products)?
(disclaimer: Im very question prone because I always choose "ask" over "assume". However, I have found that my microquestions caused some consternation from others. Please let me know if/when you need to tap out due to overwhelm. I am trying to curb my "20 Questions" habit)

@Catwoman69y2k I love questions! I’m a very, very curious person and appreciate it when others are, too.
I tried building on a template back in October, got it all setup but couldn’t get over the ‘clunky’ feeling, so I just went back to Etsy because the holiday rush was coming and I didn’t want to split my energy.
Oh, and yes, you’re correct on how far I got and where the pain point was.
It’s all offline now though, deleted, and I want to start fresh with a new template and plugins. I figured it’s best to ask folks who do this for a living to help rather than force myself to learn when I don’t have the capacity right now.
(Also, apologies for edits. I’m dyslexic and make a lot of typos, and don’t always type what’s in my head properly the first time.)

@britt Do you still habe that host space? (the hosting you used to roll out the now-deleted Wordpress instance)

@Catwoman69y2k Yep!
That’s no problem at all. -

@Catwoman69y2k Yep!
That’s no problem at all.@britt So I do see there might be some tools out there to migrate your listings from Etsy to WooCommerce. Both for the migration part and the "getting videos in product listings" part, I am trying to see if there are any good free options. I know WooCommerce functions can be developed into premium plugins and the whole point is to keep your costs down (or reduce them, if scenarios are ideal)

@Catwoman69y2k thank you for taking time out of your day to help a stranger.
If you do find anything that you think could help streamline things, that would help me out so much!
I do think a big part of my previous issues was because I bought a theme with plugins pre-installed instead of building from the ground up with only what I needed. A lot of stuff was conflicting and it got overwhelming.
Again, ty ty ty. 🥹
