@minego And getting excited about new tech

I miss liking computers.
@minego I remember being so excited to come back to my dorm room after class to check my email to see if I'd gotten a message from my long distance boyfriend. Also excited to read Livejournal and see what my pals were up to. -

@minego So much this...
I'm starting to wrest a little bit of that back switching to linux and taking control of more things at least, but it still leaves an all around issue as a whole with tech and how it's used.
But most importantly of all, we must always remember, it's the corporations and rich people who made it this way. Don't blame the tech itself. Blame those who made it this way. As you remember, there was a time before enshittification when these things were actually enjoyable to those who could invest the time and effort to learn them. (I just emphasize this because I see so many people saying stuff like "I'm just going to throw my laptop into the sea" when it isn't actually the laptop's fault, it's the fault of the corporation that made the software evil on purpose.)

@minego Linux has sparked a bit of interest in the hobby. I do miss being hyped for the next CPU and Graphics Card in order to get a few more frames out of a PC game. Good times.

I miss being in awe of the companies that made them.

I miss liking computers.
I still like computers.
The childlike fascination isn't quite so intense any more, but it's still there. Even though I know how it all works and I write code for a living, the “amazing magic cyberspace” feeling isn't entirely gone.
Thanks in large part to free software like Linux and Mastodon keeping the old magic alive.
And honestly, I'm clinging to that feeling, that faint little echo of childhood joy, for dear life. In these dark times, joy is in very short supply…

I miss liking computers.
@minego For a brief shining moment I liked computers but it was bookended by very bad computing times. Would't be surprised if it lined up with my knowledge level on the Y axis and my age on the X axis.

@minego I think I miss being optimistic about what computers, and networking can bring.
