    It's been like 6 weeks since I drove in New Zealand, and today I again hit the windshield wiper instead of the turn signal. This is never going to go away, is it?

      When I was still traveling for a living, each week's new rental car was an adventure in finding the damned controls. There needs to be a global standard for things like where turn-signals, wipers and, especially fuel-fill doors are.

        @sundogplanets it takes a few years, but fades exponentially. I've been in the UK for 28 years and even now sometimes it bites me when I'm very tired.

          @sundogplanets

          After returning from living in countries that drive on the left side of the road, I had to chant “Stay to the right… Stay to the right…” in my head for a solid six months at every turn.

            @sundogplanets I spent 6 weeks with friends in NZ after college and spent part of the time burning my hands in the bathroom because the hot water tap was on the opposite side to at home.

            …well then I got home and burned my hands a few more weeks there unlearning the change!

              @sundogplanets

              I am unpleasantly reminded of the first day I drove in Australia.

              I made it all the way from Sydney to Canberra; and then managed to smash up the tail light by turning the wrong way in a parking ramp.

                @sundogplanets My 🇳🇿 wife and I call these "left right moments".

                Going on 23 years now, and we still get them.
