so intensely north american that high sticks to the face in hockey are a 2 minute penalty unless there's blood at which point they bump it up to 4 minutes.

instead of just making players wear full face coverage.
people have lost eyesight due to sticks in the face. lost teeth. been scarred. concussed by pucks to the jaw. a 4 minute penalty doesnt fix that. it doesnt do anything bc half the time high sticks to the face are accidental.
just. wear. a full visor. why are we this stupid. who cares if it ever so slightly obscures vision. players will adjust.

but. in, again, the most north american fashion ever. they'd rather put people in sports-jail. and pretend like punishment dictates the frequency of a problem. especially when the problem is like a solid 90% incidental occurrence and not premeditated.
our culture in canada/US/UK is so embarrassingly primitive.
